PWHS Boys Varsity Basketball
The Panthers started the week well with a good win over East Aurora 64-54 on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. It was John Young leading the scoring with 21 points. Ronnie Allgood added 20 points and 12 rebounds in the victory. Proviso West lost to Proviso East 72-56 in the cross-rivalry . Ronnie Allgood led the scoring with 25 points and 15 rebounds. Timmeon Buford had 12 points and 5 assists.
Overall record: 8-6
WSC Silver Conference: 4-3
PWHS Boys Wrestling
Final results from this weekend's IHSA Wrestling Regional Competition at
Leyden:
Korrey Shelton - 2-2 finished in 4th place Michael Bell - 1-2 finished in 4th place
Unfortunately, our Proviso West team did not qualify for the sectional tournament. However Korrey and Michael are alternates for next weekend should a competitor drop out.
PWHS Girls Varsity Basketball The Lady Panthers lost 2 games this week bringing their record to 2-24. It's been a tough season for 1st year head Coach Cannon. Proviso West lost on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Lyons 58-42 and in the rivalry game to Proviso East 62-41. In both contests it was Jahnari Byrdlong leading the way with 15 points. Amari Dunlap and Joslyn Simmons-Doxie chipped in each game with 8 and 10 points respectively.
PWHS Boys Swimming The WSC Conference Championship Boys Swim Meet was held this Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Downers Grove South. Tristian Truong, of Proviso West, placed 3rd in the fresh/sophomore 50 freestyle and 2nd in the 100 yard backstroke. Brothers Martin and Alex Ayala also swam a personal record. The team is looking forward to the IHSA Sectional Meet February 17, 2018 at Downers Grove North.
PWHS Indoor Track The girls and boys track teams at Proviso West each held indoor meets on February 1 and February 2, 2018 in the Proviso West Fieldhouse. Proviso West girls and boys will host meets for the next 5 weeks on Thursday, and boys will host the next 5 weeks on Friday. Standout performers to watch are: Tanea Kimbrough, Cameron Fisher, Tania Robinson, Zacaria Fisher, Tarshana Kimbrough, Mercedes Jackson, Tyreek Anderson, John Fox and defending 200 meter conference champion Justin Bruns.

Pirates defeated Downers Grove South 64 to 55 The leading scorers for Proviso East were: Quentin Bennett with 12 points Devin Spencer 11 points Jordan Morris 11 points Aaron Sykes with 10 points The next game will be Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Proviso East against Addison Trail HS. The Sophomore game will be at 4:30 pm – Varsity @ 6:00 pm. Overall record: 14-5 WSC Silver Conference: 4-3
PEHS Girls Varsity Basketball On Friday, February 2, 2018, the Lady Pirates sealed the conference title by defeating the Eagles 79-42 to go undefeated for the 3rd season in a row. All eight seniors scored which made it a very special “Senior Night”. Saturday, February 3, 2018, the crosstown rivalry between the Panthers and the Pirates could not have been more exciting than one would expect. The red and blue clashing once again on the hardwood floors in Hillside. Fans decked out in their teams favorite color and rooting for them to defeat the other. The Pirates did not disappoint their fans on this day, they had no problems forcing the Panthers to walk the plank in route to victory 62-41.Ten Pirates scored and three were in double figures. Next game: WSC Conference Crossover game on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, Glenbard West at 7 p.m.Overall record: 23-2 WSC Silver Conference: 11-0
PEHS Wrestling Congratulations to the Proviso East Pirate Wrestling team on a strong showing at the Regional Tournament this past weekend at Leyden High School. The Pirates brought 11 wrestlers to compete and qualified a total of FIVE wrestlers to next weekend's Sectional tournament. Qualifying wrestlers include Jameir Castleberry 106, Terrance Smith 120, Deon Pernell 152, Sebastian Zaragoza 182, and Jaquari Taylor 195. Great job Pirates and good luck this weekend!
PEHS Track and Field On February 1, 2018, the Lady Pirates competed in their first meet of the season at Proviso West. Our top performers of the meet were, Leah Hillard, Jodazja Ward, Heidi Montano and Damaris Rodriguez placed 2nd in the 4x800 relay. In the 300 meters, our top performers were Jazmin Hayes and Lesley Cepeda. In the 55 meters Moneesha Gay and Endiah Taylor. In the 800meter run Steffany Martinez, Dulce Mercado and Evelyn Guzman. The ladies finished the night by winning the 4x400 meter relay with the team of Hillard, Ward, Hayes and Gay. Congratulations ladies. The Proviso East boys team results at Jerry Lowe's Track Invitational@Rockford Auburn High School: On Saturday, February 3, 2018, our boy's track team finished 6th place overall. Outstanding performance by Moese Bioash in the 60 meter dash finishing in first place with a time of 7.09 and Jamonte Flowers 3rd place finishing in the 800 meter dash in a time of 2:06.0. The 4x400 meter relay finished in 2nd place with a time of 3:32.5, on that relay was Bryant, Flowers, Love and Bioash. The Pirates will be at Argo High this Friday, February 9th at 4:30 p.m.
