oneTOone Kenton City Schools will be continuing their one to one laptop program in September with the district issuing laptops to 5th - 9th grade students and Chromebooks to the 6th grade students (one device for one student). This is partially made possible with the Asia Society grant that the middle school was awarded in 2011. An optional information meeting is scheduled for Sept. 30, 2014 at the KMS Auditorium at 7:00pm for those students that are new to the district or any others that would like more information. Students also have the option of declining the use of a school owned laptop for a laptop of their own. This is called a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program. Student owned devices are recommend to be laptops. While Chromebooks will work in a limited capacity, outside of the 6th grade level Chromebooks will be at a disadvantage to the laptops in use. BYOD laptops would be required to use the school’s network and the devices are brought to school at the owner’s risk. Kenton City Schools is not responsible for theft or damage to the Electronic Device. Students are still required to follow the district’s Internet Acceptable Use Policy when using their own equipment. Once the attached form is completed and returned to the school, the laptop will be issued to the student. An optional $40 insurance fund (with a $10 deductible) to cover accidental damage and loss will be accepted from those who would like to buy it. This is optional but highly recommended since the student and parent will be responsible for the full cost of the repair and/or replacement of a damaged or lost laptop.
