About the Author Dr. Osterman was born in a small Midwestern town. He lived there until he was 18 and then toured in Europe, spent time on the west coast of the United States, and finally settled down in Okinawa Japan. He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in education from the University of Maryland. He completed his doctorate degree from Northcentral University in educational leadership. He is married to a Japanese woman and has one adult daughter. He has been teaching English in Japan since 1993. He has taught at elementary schools, junior high schools, universities, and is an administrator at a private school in Naha City.
