Introduction to

External Skeletal Fixation External Skeletal Fixation is an effective method of fracture repair in animals, rigidly stabilizing fractures while maintaining a biologic environment for rapid osteosynthesis. Veterinary researchers have defined optimal application techniques. These include using type II fixators with full pins whenever possible, (Brinker 1985, Bouvy and Markel 1993) pre-drilling pilot holes, (Clary and Roe 1996) and using positive profile threaded pins. (Bennet and Egger 1987, Anderson and Mann 1993 and 1996) SECUROS, committed to enabling the veterinary surgeon to easily apply science to the art of external fixation, has designed the SECUROS External Fixation System. Fixator clamps are not pre-placed on connecting rods, but snapped on wherever you want, even between two installed clamps. Positive profile threaded pins are easily added to type I, II, and III fixator configurations, even at re-check examinations. Pilot holes are drilled using tissue-protecting sleeves. Full and/or half pins in type I and type II fixators are accurately placed to either side of the opposite connecting rods. The SECUROS system is interchangeable with medium and small external fixator components. Biomechanical Testing has shown that the design of the SECUROS External Fixator clamp results in greater fixator pin to connecting bar rigidity, reducing premature pin loosening.

It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3 ! 1. Use the SECUROS pin placement device to accurately pre-drill the desired pilot hole. A fixator pin can be placed to either side of the opposite connecting rod in type II fixators. The depth of the hole can be measured with a standard depth gauge. 2. Insert the positive profile fixation pin that corresponds with the pilot hole from Step 1 through the pin placement tool. This aligns the pin with the pilot hole. 3. Snap on the SECUROS fixator clamp by sliding it over the fixation pin and onto the connecting rod. Insert and tighten the clamp bolt. It is ideal to tighten the bolt to 7.34 Nm of torque. SECUROS offers a precision torque wrench for this purpose.

ESF Stainless Steel Product Instructions Applying the SECUROS fixation clamp 1. After the fixation pin is placed, slide the pin into the appropriate hole on the head component (bullet shaped). 2. Take the U component and put it together with the head component (keeping the head component on the pin). 3. Slide the two components down the fixation pin (approaching the fixation bar). 4. Once the clamp is going over the connecting bar, you will notice that the head component hits the connecting bar not allowing for the clamp to go completely over the bar. 5. At this point, gently use your thumb (not the one pushing down the clamp) to push the fixation pin away from the clamp. This will allow for the clamp to snap over the fixation bar. 6. Finger tighten the bolt and then apply two-thirds of a turn using the standard wrench. 7. Construct the rest of the frame in the same manner.

7. Tighten the large knob on the far end of the aiming tool. 8. Place the drill sleeve through aiming tool down to the bone surface (you can use a Steinmann pin to guide the drill guide to the bone). 9. Make sure that the aiming tool is tight; drill your fixation pinhole. 10. Remove the drill sleeve and place the fixation pin through the aiming tool into the drilled hole. Insert pin. 11. Repeat for all pin locations

8. Apply final tightening using the torque wrench.

SECUROS double clamp instructions

Using the SECUROS pin placement tool in type I configurations

• The SECUROS double clamps work differently than the K-E type double clamps.

1. Apply the most distal and most proximal fixation pins in the standard way. 2. Connect the connecting bar to the proximal and distal pins. 3. Tighten bolts 4. Remove the sliding component of the aiming tool by removing the stainless steel knob. 5. After fixation pin is placed, put bullet-shaped or head clamp inside U-shaped clamp, and slide it over fixation pin. Gently use your thumb to push fixation pin away from the clamp. This will allow for the clamp to snap over the fixation bar.

• The SECUROS double clamp components are used with your existing SECUROS clamps. • Using the SECUROS double clamps 1. Take two SECUROS clamps and remove the hex head bolt from one and the hex head bolt and head unit from the other. 2. Place the two clamps together so that the smaller holes are face to face. 3. Place the normal head unit in one of the larger holes and the double clamp components in the other. You now have a double clamp complete.

6. Adjust the aiming tool so that when you drill you will have good bone purchase (you may test this by probing through the aiming tool into the soft tissue using a K-wire).

7. Tighten the large knob on the far end of the aiming tool.

• The torque wrench can not be sterilized! It is to be used for final tightening after surgery.

8. Place the drill sleeve through the aiming tool down to the bone surface (you can use a Steinmann pin to guide the drill guide to the bone). 9. Make sure that the aiming tool is tight; drill your fixation pinhole. 10. Remove the drill sleeve and place the fixation pin through the aiming tool into the drilled hole. Insert pin. 11. Repeat for all pin locations.

Using the SECUROS pin placement tool in type II configurations 1. Apply the most distal and most proximal fixation pins in the standard way. 2. Connect the connecting bars to the proximal and distal pins. 3. Tighten bolts 4. Open the aiming tool as much as possible by loosening the knob and sliding the rail. 5. Put the aiming tool over the connecting rod, making sure that it hits the stainless steel back of the cup-shaped component of the through rod (you may have to adjust the stainless steel back by using another connecting bar).

6. Slide the rail so that the aiming tool just sits on the opposite connecting bar (important: do not apply a lot of pressure). Adjust the aiming tool so that when you drill you will have good bone purchase (you may test this by probing through the aiming tool into the soft tissue using a K-wire). You may have to change which side the opposite connecting bar sits in. You can also flip the entire aiming tool so that you are drilling on the opposite side of the connecting bar.


• The torque wrench comes pre-set for the appropriate torque (7.34 Nm). If you need to adjust the torque wrench, see accompanying directions.

• Using the torque wrench 1. Assemble the fixator. Tighten the bolts as you go by first finger tightening them and then apply two-thirds of a turn with the standard wrench. This is close to the recommended torque. 2. Once the fixator is completely assembled, use the torque wrench to apply the final tightening (non-sterile). - Place the torque wrench over the bolt head. - Hold the torque wrench at the end of the handle. - Turn the torque wrench until you feel a click. This is how the torque wrench indicates that you are at the set torque. - Once you feel the click, move on to the next clamp and repeat. - After all bolts have been tightened you’re done! • Important: If for some reason the bolts were tightened beyond the recommended torque, prior to using the torque wrench, the torque wrench will not click. If you continue to tighten the bolt, it could break.

TITAN ESF System “Step by Step” STEP 1

1. Start Application with Pre-drilling of Proximal and Distal pin holes with Placement Device and Drill Sleeve. Place Proximal and Distal ESF pins.

Unilateral Augmentation System Instructions

Unilateral Augmentation System

1. The

modified clamps are used in place of the standard clamps to secure the fixation pins closest to the fracture. The modified clamps work exactly like the standard clamps.

2. The distance between the two clamps closest to the fracture is compared to the series of plates to determine which plate to use. The chosen plate is applied to the inner two clamps with bolts. Occasionally, the plate will need to be twisted with wrenches or plate bending irons to ensure it lies flat on the clamps.

SECUROS ESF Augmentation System

3. The bolts for augmentation plates have the same head size as the clamp

bolts, but are slightly shorter and marked. The augmentation plate works with the connecting rod to form a rod and beam construct that results in more than 400% increase in stiffness (resulting in an axial stiffness of more than 150N/mm). The plate can be removed during fracture healing once an initial callus has formed to dynamize the fracture. This system allows you to change the frame stiffness without removing pins, therefore maintaining bone/pin interface.

FastFix FastFix is a fast-setting, high-strength polymer compound that enables fast, simple, inexpensive external fixation repairs. The polymer can replace the connecting bar and the external fixation clamp or it can be used to replace the external fixation clamp. Each unit contains pre-measured portions of the activator and base throughout—no measuring or mixing tools are necessary. As the polymer is mixed, the two contrasting colors blend into one color and indicate complete mixing. The consistency (like modeling clay) eliminates drips and runs and allows the material to be shaped and formed as needed before curing begins. FastFix polymer contains no solvents or VOCs. It’s non-flammable and releases no noxious fumes. It won’t shrink or pull away. Introduction to

Cruciate Ligament Repair Cranial cruciate ligament repair is the most common orthopedic condition seen in dogs. SECUROS has devoted its innovation and imagination to developing orthopedic products that will improve the surgery and its results. From the most basic lateral suture technique to the advanced tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) or the XGEN tibial tuberosity advancement (TTA), SECUROS is on the cutting edge of technology for you and your patients. SECUROS was the first in the veterinary industry to come out with a crimping system that is “proven, precise and calibrated”. The patented notch design in the SECUROS crimping device, the SECUROS suture and SECUROS crimp clamps are all calibrated together so you can squeeze the crimping device as hard as you like and you will never cut the suture or have a crimp too tight or too loose using the proper crimping technique. The SECUROS crimping device is also a dual-action mechanism device that allows the surgeon to crimp with ease. The SECUROS tensioning device allows for proper tensioning of the suture. The SECUROS TPLO plates are uniquely designed with an engineered anatomical profile that simplifies contouring. They are fully machined – NOT CAST – 100% medically certified implant-grade stainless steel with increased stiffness and limited contact with cortical bone. The low profile makes closing tissue layers easier and improves the cosmetic result. The SECUROS TPLO plate easily achieves compression, has no stress risers, and the staggered holes improve torsional holding of the osteotomy. The SECUROS 3.5mm broad plate eliminates the need to double plate larger dogs and has eight screw holes. The SECUROS TPLO plates are also available in a new “antiglare” style that reduces the amount of glare from the surgical lights and a new “precontoured” style that is pre-shaped for the surgeon to reduce time in surgery.

The SECUROS TTA Implants and Instrumentation are the newest in cruciate repair and available in stainless steel and titanium. The TTA procedure was first described by Drs. Pierre Montavan and Slobodan Tepic at the University of Zurich on 2002. The biomechanics behind the TTA are similar to those of TPLO, and if in fact are true, may provide evidence that TPLO over-corrects the stifle. The procedure itself is simpler than TPLO. Preoperative measurements are made from standard radiographs. A transverse osteotomy is made in the tibial tuberosity, and it is advanced and stabilized utilizing a novel cage and XGEN plate. The TTA procedure has suggested that earlier weight bearing and return to function can occur when compared to the TPLO procedure. TTA can be used to repair CCL ruptures in most dogs with few exceptions, where TPLO might be better suited. The SECUROS Cruciate Repair Systems are successfully being used in universities, specialty hospitals and general practice clinics throughout the USA and around the globe. SECUROS also sponsors many cruciate repair labs and lectures throughout the year.

Crimping Techniques 101 The SECUROS crimping device is designed to be error proof, as long as it is used properly. Illustrated below are the possible crimping patterns. There is only one correct way to crimp the crimp clamp, which is indicated in Figure 1. The other figures show incorrect crimp patterns.

Figure 1: This figure illustrates the correct pattern for crimping the crimp clamp. Notice that the crimp marks are in from the edges of the clamp (at least 1mm). They have a uniform shape across the short axis of the clamp, they are evenly spaced apart from one another and there are THREE crimp marks.

Figure 2: The two crimp marks at the ends of the clamp are right on the edges. This rolls the edges of the tube into the suture and would cause the suture to break at a significantly less load. If this happens, cut the suture and start over.

Figure 3: The center crimp has pierced the clamp. This occurs when the tips of the jaws are used when crimping. This would cut the suture inside the clamp and cause the suture to break. To avoid this, make sure the crimping device fully encloses the clamp.

Figure 4: This is probably the most common mistake. When crimping the clamp, it is extremely important to crimp the clamp in the right direction. Because of the clamp’s “oval” cross section, the strands of suture will lie side-by-side inside the clamp. Be sure to crimp the clamp down on the suture strands as they lie sideby-side, NOT one on top of the other. If the clamp is crimped with the sutures on top of each other, the suture will be cut immediately.

XGEN CCR

System The SECUROS XGEN CCR System was engineered and developed to offer a minimally invasive procedure that utilizes the lateral suture technique in conjunction with isometric points (Roe SC, Kue J, Gemma J. Isometry of potential suture attachment sites for the cranial cruciate ligament deficit stifle. VetComp Ortho Traumatol 2008:21(3);215). In the past, sutures (either monofilament or OrthoFiber) were placed at the isometric points using bone anchors. Although bone anchors have proven to be an effective option, bone tunnels and surgical buttons show increased promise due to fewer stress risers on the suture. SECUROS has developed the PROS and BOSS implants that remove virtually all stresses on the suture to better ensure a long-lasting stabilization. The new XGEN system allows for controlled, verified tension prior to closing. Enjoy many of the benefits of the SECUROS crimping system with the new XGEN system.

XGEN CCR

Basic Instructions Step 1: Make an incision from the lateral fabella to the tubercle of Gerdy. Step 2: Drill a 2.8mm hole in the caudal aspect of the lateral femoral condyle slightly cranial to and even with the bottom of the lateral fabella. Protect all soft tissues during drilling. The drill should be angled at approximately 45 degrees (distal to proximal) and exit in the distal diaphysis of the femur caudal to the vastus medialis muscle. Make a release incision on the medial side directly over the drill bit down to the bone. Step 3: Palpate the long digital extensor (LDE) tendon in the extensor groove of the proximal tibia: make an incision (approx. 5mm) in the fascial sheath immediately caudal to the LDE. Drill a 2.8mm bone tunnel (protecting all soft tissue) under the LDE at the caudal aspect of the tubercle of Gerdy. Angle the drill slightly craniodistal and exit on the medial side of the tibia.

Step 4: Use the special 4.0mm tap to tap both the femur and the tibial bone tunnels from the lateral side.

Step 5: Insert the Stylus Guide Pin medial to lateral with 2.0mm section through first. Then insert the first PROS implant bone tunnel from the lateral side of the femur and tibia, using the PROS square driver. Be sure to insert the PROS implant slowly, the Guide Pin will ensure it precisely follows, the tapped hole. Repeat with the second PROS implant on the lateral side. Step 6: Insert the wire guide with OrthoFiber through the femoral bone tunnel from medial to lateral, through the femur and the PROS implant. Pull the suture tight in order to seat the BOSS implant securely on the medial side. Step 7: Insert the wire guide with OrthoFiber through the PROS implant and tibial bone tunnel, from the lateral to medial side of the tibia. Pull the suture tight. Step 8: Remove the wire guide from the OrthoFiber. Pull one of the OrthoFiber strands back to the lateral side of the tibia. Place the end of the suture that remains on the medial side through a BOSS implant button. Once the BOSS is on the suture, thread the suture end through the hole back to the lateral side of the tibia. Be sure that the BOSS implant is tight against the medial side of the tibia before the next step. Step 9: Thread both ends of the OrthoFiber through an OrthoFiber crimp clamp and pull tight. Place small Kelly forceps on both sides of the crimp clamp, approximately 2mm away on each side. Use the SECUROS tensioning device to apply the desired tension to the suture (be sure to check cranial drawer and range of motion). Once the desired tension is reached, crimp the crimp clamp (3x) and remove the Kelly forceps. Step 10: Tie 6 throws on top of the crimp clamp for added security. Cut off the remaining suture above the knot. Approximately 2mm of suture should be left above the knot. Final Step: Close incisions routinely. Introduction to

Coxofemoral Luxation Management The SECUROS Coxofemoral Luxation Management System was originally developed over a 2-year period with leading universities prior to production. This system is an excellent alternative to an FHO for luxated hips. The system includes a femoral head aiming guide, solid implant-grade toggle rods, a toggle rod inserter and a monofilament nylon puller. The SECUROS toggle rods are made of the highest-grade implant stainless steel and have been tested and shown to be mechanically superior to the K-wire alternative. The toggle rods are available in three sizes. The aiming guide simplifies the aiming and drilling of the hole that passes through the femoral head by allowing the surgeon to apply the device and accurately drill the hole from the lateral aspect of the femoral head. The toggle rod inserter is used to place the toggle rod behind the medial wall of the acetabulum and the nylon puller is used to pull the suture through the drilled hole in the femoral neck. The system can be purchased as a kit or by the component. More detailed instructions are available with purchase.

Luxate the hip, elevate the femur and rotate it 45 degrees. Debride remnants of the round ligament from the fovea. Place the point of the drill guide in the middle of the fovea. Position the drill sleeve on the lateral aspect of the femur at the base of the greater trochanter. Tighten the sleeve to stabilize the guide. Drill the femoral neck with the 3.2mm drill bit and remove the guide. 2. Reduce the hip and hold the limb in a normal standing position. This will require that the leg be lifted from the table. Drill through the femoral neck hole and continue through the medial wall of the acetabulum. (If the limb is not lifted, this may damage articular cartilage and the resulting neutral position of the device will not be optimal.) 3. Re-dislocate the hip. Thread the nylon through the toggle rod. Load the toggle rod and nylon into the inserter. Roll the “O”-rings over the nylon to help hold the toggle rod in place. Push the toggle rod into the hole in the medial wall of the acetabulum. Push on the plunger to deliver the toggle rod completely through the hole. While continuing to hold the plunger in place, pull on the nylon to seat the toggle rod. The plunger will prevent the toggle rod from pulling back into the acetabulum. Remove the inserter and plunger. Pull firmly on the nylon to ensure that the toggle is engaged. 4. Feed the nylon up the hole in the femoral neck and reduce the hip. Pull firmly on the nylon while pushing the femur into the acetabulum. While holding the nylon at the level of the trochanter, manipulate the hip through full flexion and extension. Simulate weight bearing in a normally abducted position. Secure the nylon by tying over a polypropylene button or another toggle rod. Five throws are necessary. If you have the SECUROS Cruciate System, you may choose to perform the following steps. 5. Drill a hole approximately 5-10mm in front of the lateral aspect of the femoral head, perpendicular to the hole drilled in the femoral neck. 6. Pass one strand of the nylon that was fed through the femoral neck through one side of the perpendicular hole. Feed the other strand of the nylon through the other side of the perpendicular hole. Pass the two ends of the nylon through the primary crimp clamp. Apply two secondary crimp clamps to the free ends. Apply the desired tension using the tensioning device. 7. Crimp the primary crimp clamp and cut off the secondary crimp clamps. Apply three crimps to the primary crimp clamp.

Magic Pins general Principles 1. Three shaft diameter/thread diameter combinations are available. Small Medium Large

Each of the above is available in a variety of thread lengths, but the total length of each implant is a uniform 120 mm. Choose the appropriate implant according to the fracture pattern and the anatomical site. Insert the implant without pre-drilling or tapping. Do not bend the implant during insertion into the bone, because this might lead to breakage. Determine the intended position of the implant before insertion. 2. Reduce the fracture anatomically. Use forceps where possible for reduction and interfragmentary compression. 3. Verify reduction. 4. Measure the implant thread length required preoperatively on the X-ray or determine it by overlaying an implant of adequate size. 5. Insert the implant percutaneously until the chamfer meets the near cortex. 6. A second implant ensures rotational stability. Cut the implants just above the chamfer. Whenever possible, the cut end should be covered with skin. In cases when the cut end cannot be covered with skin, leave the end exposed and cover with a sterile dressing. Leave the implants in place until the fracture heals, normally for 6-8 weeks; remove them when necessary using the extractor. Compression Effect The compression effect can be obtained in two ways: 1. If for example, you have a condylar fracture and the bone fragment requires reattachment, the implant is inserted through the lateral aspect of the segment and seated into the far cortex. When the tip reaches the cis cortex, the speed of the insertion of the implant must be reduced. As the implant meets the resistance of the hard cortical bone, the thread makes several revolutions without advancing initially, leading to a gliding hole proximally and a threaded hole distally. When the chamfer and the washer reach the bone, the two fragments will be compressed together. Insertion should be stopped at this point. 2. In the example shown, and inter-metacarpal dislocation resulted in widening of the space between adjacent metacarpal heads. The implant is first drilled into the near metacarpal producing a threaded hole. On reaching the far metacarpal it also produces a threaded hole. At the moment the washer reaches the near metacarpal cortex, the implant revolves without advancing, thus producing a gliding hole in the near metacarpal. This allows the two metacarpal heads to approximate.

Introduction to

Internal Fixation SECUROS prides itself on producing the highest quality implants and instrumentation available today. Our implants are made of the highest grade 316LVM implant grade stainless steel. Used extensively in trauma, our implants have a long tradition of clinical success. ASTM FI38-03 and ISO 5832-I material standards provide rigid specifications, defining the chemical composition, microstructural characteristics and mechanical properties of implantquality stainless steel. The material used for all SECUROS plates and screws meet these strict standards. SECUROS uses an independent metallurgical laboratory to analyze and certify that all material from our suppliers conforms to these standards. ASTM FI38-03 and ISO 5832-I specifications are so strict that there are relatively few material suppliers who provide stainless steel that meets these guidelines.

PAX System Kits (Polyaxial Locking System)

The SECUROS plates are tested to determine their surface hardness – an indicator of the material’s strength. The dimensions of SECUROS screws are based on ISO specifications that define the sizes and tolerances of many of the screws’ features that have become the accepted norm of clinical experience. These features illustrate our investment in quality control, to ensure our customers use the highest quality implants available.

PAX Locking 2.0/2.4mm System

Veterinary Osteosynthesis The osteosynthesis set is designed for operative fracture treatment, anatomical reconstruction and for the re-establishment of lost functionality. The modern plate geometry offers the veterinary surgeon a range of application from the extremities to the spine. An unknown biomechanical loading post-operative of various animals poses a greater risk of reposition. The poly-axial angularly stable screw plate locking system reduces the risk of primary or secondary loss of reposition. The plate and screws present a stable system that provides the fundamental condition for osteosynthesis. Because it is possible to lock the plates without pressing them onto the bone, similar to an internal fixator, this does not impair the blood circulation. The plates are equipped with bending zones between the locking holes to aid the shaping of the plates for the particular bones.

Introduction to

Surgical Tools & Supplies SECUROS offers a comprehensive suite of orthopedic devices and accessories, including a large range of sterilization cases, dual hand chucks, organizer bags, bone models, bandaging and casting materials. One of the many sterilization trays available from SECUROS is the 1240 Sterilization Tray measuring 1.75” x 2.75” x 0.375”. It is made of high-quality stainless steel, has a sliding lid and comes with a lifetime guarantee. It is the ideal tray for SECUROS crimp clamps, toggle rods, bone anchors, cruciate needles, spiked washers and screws. Free etching of the tray’s contents is available. SECUROS has sterilization trays and cases available that hold a large range of screws, plates and instruments. Our Internal Fixation (IF) Organizer is the newest addition to our line. Please call us if you have customized needs for your clinic. SECUROS dual chuck hand chucks used in many surgical applications are available in the standard size and a mini version as well. The set includes a hexhead screwdriver and stainless steel key for Jacob’s chuck drill attachments. SECUROS also offers an autoclaveable organizer bag for all of their systems. The bags are made from heavy canvas and are screen printed to indicate contents. The bags may be steam sterilized. There

are many options available, including pouches for the SECUROS Cruciate Repair System, the SECUROS Coxofemoral Luxation System, the SECUROS Pin/Wire Pack, the SECUROS Bone Anchor Pack, the SECUROS Steinmann Pin Starter Kit and many more. Bone Models are available for surgical practice, staff instruction and client demonstration purposes. Please call us if you have a special requested bone model. We also have bone models available illustrating proper technique and placement of orthopedic implants. SECUROS carries a line of synthetic bioactive material called Velosity. It promotes bone formation and creates a scaffold for new bone growth. It is available in both a particulate and a putty form. SECUROS has a line of carbide burs and oscillating saw blades for your power drills and saws. Specialty sizes and designs available upon request. SECUROS also carries a full line of Instrument Cleaning and Maintenance products from enzyme cleaners to lubricants and autoclave cleaner. This line is available from our SECUROS Surgical division. SECUROS Surgical also supplies a line of top quality Scalpel Blades.

The SECUROS Equine Tie-Back System has been proven to “improve control of the degree of arytenoid cartilage abduction during laryngoplasty.”1 Modeled after the SECUROS Cranial Cruciate Ligament Repair System for dogs, this system uses a larger SECUROS Tensioning Device. It also includes the precision SECUROS Crimping Device, which is engineered for a calibrated crimp with our monofilament nylon suture and crimp clamps. Both the Crimping Device and the Tensioning Device come with a lifetime warranty. The SECUROS Crimping System has been found to have many other uses in the equine field beyond the laryngoplasty procedure, including rib fracture repair in newborn foals2, coxofemoral luxation of mini horses, and luxation of the humerus. SECUROS can supply all your internal fixation implant and instrument needs, from basic plates and screws to complete plate and screw fixation kits. The SECUROS line of orthopedic implants and instrumentation is AO/ASIF compatible. The Internal Fixation Instrument section of this catalog lists all orthopedic implants and instruments available. The SECUROS transfixation pin is the best in external skeletal fixation that you can find for a positive profile pin. With its double trocar tip and tri-faced end, it is a cut above the rest. The Three in One Drill Bit is an orthopedic drill bit that begins as a 4.5mm tip then transitions to a 5.5mm tip, finished by a 6.2mm tip. There is no need to switch drill bits and wait for bone heat reduction. You can drill in one smooth process and not risk heat necrosis in your patient. The SECUROS Prosthetic Laryngoplasty (Tie-Back) System simplifies the abduction of the arytenoid cartilage by using a locking surgical instrument to abduct the cartilage and hold it in place so that the surgeon can fully observe the amount of abduction. Once the right amount of abduction is achieved, a precise crimping tool is used to crimp a surgical clamp (instead of tying a knot) to secure the monofilament suture. SECUROS offers half round cutting needles with the monofilament suture swedged on for this procedure.
