Local History – How have our school grounds and village changed over time? ART

Sculpture – Design and make a sculpture as part of a group that can improve our local environment (links to geography) Natural Art – Create images using natural items, rubbings and printings. Study Artist Andy Goldsworthy, local artists of own choice.

GEOGRAPHY

SCIENCE

Improving the Environment – Use fieldwork skills to explore local environment. Identify an area that needs improvement and suggest ways of improvements. Coastal focus looking at coastal erosion and local environmental issues. Map Skills Identify where we are in relation to country. Local map study.

Plants - Learn parts of a plant and their roles. Investigate the effect of light, air, water and temperature on plant growth. Look at different soil types. Use investigative skills to describe and group them. Habitats and Adaptation - Learn about different types of habitats and how creatures have adapted to living there. Look at species within our local habitat. USING ICT

DESIGN TECHNOLOGY –

Design and make own tree house shelter. Design and make own canvas bag with an environment theme. Make dips using natural produce. MUSIC/RE

Class Performance – Sing songs around topic of plants and nature discuss opinions – focus on use of voice effectively. Compose own songs for class performance. Keyboard focus. RE - Study of local buildings, signs and symbols.

MATHEMATICS BLOCKS

A2 – Number (4 areas) B2 – Multiplication, division, word problems. C1 - Handling data and measures, time. D1 – Calculating, measuring and understanding shape, area and perimeter. E1 – Securing number facts, relationships and calculating. Using and applying Maths

Research and select appropriate topic information. Create and present information using digital media. Store relevant information into pupil folder. Combining text and graphics– graphics– Write reports on our improvements/recycling – include importing own graphics and changing fonts. Internet/Modelling – BBC science clips, model effects of light, temp, water on plant growth. Collecting and presenting information and data. – Excel.

PE

Gymnastics/Dance – Explore movements on and off apparatus, creating sequences. Net/Wall Games – Tennis, netball

Outdoor – Orienteering, using maps to find particular natural objects. (Design orienteering activity for our school) Invasion Games - Hand ball, king ball, tag rugby Forest school – Plants and habitats focus. Martial Arts – 3 week block.

LITERACY

Reports – Look at language features of non-fiction. Research and write notes to support planning. Write reports on protecting the environment. Letters - Thank you letters to school visitors. Description – Write description of environmental settings, considering senses. Poetry – Descriptive poetry of plants, local coastal environment. Persuasion – Begin investigating the language of persuasion. Write a piece for the newsletter, newspaper –e.g. persuading children to recycle in school. Narrative – Write extended stories based upon a blue print and from a film stimulus. Speaking and and Listening – Talk with confidence and listen attentively to others. Reading Comprehension activities.
