Scope of work: Consultant Principles for Digital Development, Community Engagement

Overview DIAL is a global alliance to enable the digital ecosystem to deliver greater scale, efficiency and social impact as it creates more inclusive digital economies in emerging markets. Working with partners, DIAL will generate evidence of what works through a series of demonstration projects, distil insights and tools to promote scale-up and replication, and provide mechanisms to encourage knowledge sharing, collaboration and co-investment throughout the ecosystem. DIAL is a donor-funded program hosted within the UN Foundation, and based in the UN Foundation’s Washington, D.C. office. The incumbent will be an employee of the UN Foundation and will be based in Washington. Candidates must have prior work authorization. The Principles for Digital Development (PDD) are a set of high-level principles that describe good practice in the design and deployment of large-scale digital services that have the potential to improve the quality of life of low-income people in emerging markets. They are relevant for both business-to-business or government-to-person service delivery by governments, NGOs, industry and other providers. DIAL plays a stewardship role for the PDD. As steward, DIAL will foster and catalyze dialogue, curate and create learnings where needed, and facilitate a process by which the PDD can be best shared and strengthened through collective voice and inputs. DIAL’s role is an objective actor with the mission of creating public good assets and to encourage and provide structure to enable the global community to evolve, adopt and institutionalize the PDD. To better facilitate knowledge creation and dissemination and broaden the reach of the Principles community, DIAL is seeking a Consultant or firm to promote the Principles for Digital Development, manage the online community of practice,, planning and executing strategies to re-ignite it, facilitating conversation and adding valuable content for community members. The Consultant, Community Management, Principles for Digital Development will report to the Director, Collective Impact. This role requires 20 hour/week consultancy scoped with a six month duration. Work can be conducted remotely, but may require occational travel to DIAL’s Washington, DC office

Outcomes •

Outcome 1: Community engagement and adoption • Devise, coordinate and manage virtual convenings/webinars of stakeholders • Conduct robust outreach to the PDD listserv on issues of interest to the community • Monitor discussions and respond in a timely fashion • Contribute to related communication vehicles, such as blog writing, social media, collateral and website development, and ensure the integration of community for promotion and awareness building. • Identify ways to engage further the community and expand its reach in strategic, creative and thoughtful way







Assist in endorsement campaign and promotion system in collaboration with Program Manager, Principles for Digital Development. Outcome 2: Reporting and Monitoring • Create monthly reports on success of community engagement • Advise on program changes Outcome 3: Website maintenance • Update and maintain the community platform • Position may require managing and troubleshooting all platform (Wordpress) upgrades or updates • Recommend and implement new community features as appropriate

Demonstrated capacity to facilitate and manage online communities of practice, preferably with highly technical stakeholders Experience using a content management system or Web page software, such as Wordpress, Drupal etc. Experience with Discourse platform Entrepreneurial, with a talent for creative problem solving, perseverance, flexibility and resilience. Able to thrive in environments of ambiguity and enjoys being a thought partner on new ventures. Detail oriented. Results oriented Excellent writing skills Fun, friendly and excited to collaborate with teams Familiarity with diverse stakeholders in the digital development community preferred Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and thoughtfully across a diverse set of partners and audiences across multiple geographies and sectors
