bundle that includes functionality from two Oracle ETL products. This pricing bundle includes the Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) product and the enterprise-wide ETL functionality from Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB). Currently, these two products require separate installation and implementation. Going forward, the ODI functionality and enterprise-wide ETL functionality from OWB will be available in a single unified data integration technology platform.

BENEFITS

Users of each product will have a seamless, easy upgrade path to the

unified platform.

of bulk data through better use of Oracle Database features • More complex data

warehouse designs with less developer effort and fewer errors • Higher ROI on development

This datasheet highlights the key OWB features available in the pricing bundle Oracle Data Integrator Enterprise Edition. Advanced Data Load Options Many enterprises face the realities of data volumes that grow larger and larger, and batch windows for loading data that grow shorter and shorter. In many cases, completing data loads in the available batch windows is difficult if not impossible with SQL-based loading techniques.

• Easier maintenance of the

development/test/production lifecycle

OWB automates loading data using fast and efficient methods such as Oracle Data Pump and transportable tablespaces. Moving data in bulk with these techniques results in greatly increased loading performance because large amounts of SQL processing are bypassed. Pluggable Mappings for Transformation Logic Reuse Pluggable mappings enable developers to reuse transformation logic. Pluggable mappings are an extension of OWB mappings that can be used like operators in other mappings- similar to calling a subroutine or function in most programming languages. The result is that developers can build complex transformations from smaller components, reuse them across a project, and share them among developers. This increases developer productivity, reduces rework and ensures consistency for complex tasks. Automatic Slowly Changing Dimension Support OWB automates the design and ETL for Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3 slowly changing dimensions (SCD). The SCDs are designed declaratively based on the dimension metadata. The definition of the dimension captures all logic that will be

applied to the data loaded into the dimension.

Designing a Slowly Changing Dimension, Type 2

Once the business user has decided which attributes are important, the data modeler designs the dimension. The ETL developer sees and handles the dimension as any other dimension. OWB creates the slowly changing dimension loading logic automatically when generating PL/SQL code from the ETL mapping design, based on the slowly changing dimension type selected in the dimension definition. This smart handling of slowly changing dimensions eliminates one area of major ETL development effort. End-to-End Data Lineage and Impact Analysis OWB Enterprise ETL adds extensive interactive data lineage and impact analysis capabilities, down to the atribute level.

your data warehouse or other target and trace back the structural and data dependencies on upstream objects. With impact analysis, you can see the effects of proposed changes in your system design, such as changing the type or length of a column in a source, and proactively identify effects on downstream objects before these changes break your system. Start anywhere in your project and browse upstream lineage and downstream impacts of any object or attribute.

Advanced Configuration Management Promoting systems from one environment to another (for example, development to test to production) requires managing configuration details for multiple environments. Each environment has its own connection information and unique settings for parallelism and logging, for example.

• Oracle Partitioning • Oracle OLAP • Oracle Gateways

OWB’s multi-configuration feature enables you to define a single logical ETL design and associate it with many separate physical environments. From a common ETL design, OWB generates ETL code specific to each physical environment based on the settings and connection information you define.
