List 6B: Long i sounds Dear Parents, In our word work this week, we are practicing words that have the long i sound spelled with an i, ie, or igh. We will be focusing on the various ways that these patterns can be used in words. /ī/= wild, die, sight Please remember that we are focusing on the spelling pattern, not just memorizing the words on the list. In addition to studying the assigned list, it would helpful to encourage your child to spell other words that follow the same pattern, but are not on their list. Students should study the 10 assigned pattern words below and the words that are listed on the attached portable word wall. In addition to their 10 assigned words, we will choose up to 5 word wall words and 5 applied words to be included on the test. Applied words follow the same pattern, but are not part of the list that your child was given to study. Over the next two weeks, we will be working in school and at home on word activities that will focus on this spelling pattern.
