PARENT AMBASSADORS
2018-19 PARENT AMBASSADOR APPLICATION Parent Ambassadors is a program of Metro Nashville Public Schools in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office that pairs experienced Metro School parents with New American or international families in Nashville schools who have limited English proficiency. Parent Ambassadors provide families with information and guidance on navigating the school system. They serve as advisors to Metro School leadership on various policies and practices, volunteer at district, school, and community events as well as partake in other opportunities. Parent Ambassadors receive ongoing free training from several departments within Metro Schools and community stakeholders, and they will begin working with New American families in September. Parent Ambassador Applications are due Friday, May 25, 2018.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) What language groups are represented in the program? We currently have MNPS parents who speak Spanish, Arabic, Kurdish, and Sudanese. We strongly encourage parents from ALL language groups to apply to contribute toward a more vigorous, and diverse program this coming school year! How long will parents serve as Ambassadors? Parent Ambassadors will serve for one-year, with the option to renew. How much time will they be expected to volunteer? Parent Ambassadors volunteer no more than two hours per week, possibly a few more hours if there are multiple events or activities. How many parents will be chosen? Our goal is to have as many parents as possible, representing our diverse students andfamilies across all quadrants. Will Parent Ambassadors get paid? This is a volunteer opportunity for parents, but it is also a great way to get experience working with MNPS staff in our school system, supporting various projects, and advising leaders. Each of these experiences would help parents navigate the school system, and take on decision making roles. How will Parent Ambassadors receive training? • Parent Ambassadors will attend training with various MNPS departments, as well as external stakeholders. • Parent Ambassadors will have the opportunity to develop and take on leadership roles. • Parent Ambassadors may learn about additional training opportunities in the community including but not limited to MyCity Academy.
