Dear Parents/Carers, It was Teacher Appreciation Day on Wednesday and as a staff we were heartened by the lovely, warm messages we received from students, videos of which can be seen on the Crestwood Facebook page. In return, we would like to state how appreciative we are as a staff of the tremendous effort and determination being shown by the vast majority of Year 11 students in the final run up to the start of their written GCSE exams on Monday. Year 11 have a jam-packed five weeks ahead of them, with examinations on most days, interspersed by revision sessions before, during and after school, at weekends and during the May half-term! Letters are going home to Year 11 parents today containing a timetable of these sessions and explaining the procedures for the exam period, which for most students ends on Friday 15 June. Trips have continued to go out over the last seven days. Over the Bank Holiday weekend, another set of students completed their first Duke of Edinburgh Award Expedition and did so with the benefit of some glorious weather! In order to boost their understanding of a key GCSE text, during the week students from Aspire went to The Mayflower Theatre in Southampton to watch the touring production of Blood Brothers. There will be several more trips before the end of term, including the end of year reward trips, which now comprise three choices; Thorpe Park, Splashdown or Vue/Hollywood Bowl. It is pleasing to say most students have been invited to take part. Invitations have been based on good progress, good behaviour and good attendance. Invitation letters are being sent home with students today. If your child did not receive a letter at this moment it does not necessarily mean he/she will not be able to go in the end. If those students who have yet to be invited display significant improvements in progress, behaviour and attendance then we will be more than happy to invite them closer to the time. We hope you have a happy and restful weekend.

Word for the Week  Each week we run a Word for the Week competition for Years 7 and 8. The first people to correctly define the word and let Mr Tully know (either by email or via their tutor) receive ePraise points for their efforts. This week, our word was dichotomy, a noun meaning a contrast between two things that are opposed to one another or entirely different e.g. the dichotomy of good and evil. Well done to our winners for this week: 10 ePraise - Daniel Arnett 08 ePraise - Taylor Burrell 06 ePraise - James Parker 04 ePraise - Owen Smith 02 ePraise - Chloe Cahill Everyone else who sent in a correct definition will get one ePraise point.

SCIENCE  Year 9 students have been covering Circuits this week during lessons. Alfie told us “I have learnt how to use an ammeter today - it was one of the best lessons ever!”

ASPIRE BLOOD BROTHERS TRIP TO THE MAYFLOWER

Mrs Hills, Miss Tyrell and Mrs Bazant would like you to know how extremely proud they were of the students went to see Blood brothers at the Mayflower. It was a stunning performance, the students were beautifully behaved - an experience enjoyed by all! Jack said it was “A superior performance that puts the book into perspective for me.” Millie-Mae added “I found it an emotional experience” Elisha said “It was a heartwarming experience that will help me with my Literature exam” Ashton concluded “I liked the ice-cream.”

TEXTILES

Year 7 Miss Dewey’s Year 7 Textiles group learnt to use the sewing machines today. This involved them helping each other and focusing on controlling the machine without going off the lines! Well done year 7!

YEAR 8 Cherbourg Star Stitchers! Congratulations to Terri Buttler and Craig Delara. What a fantastic first lesson in our new rotations of Technology. Both pupils created a very creative and unique piece of work exploring traditions for our new project. Well done to you both!
