erbicide application in NOVEC right-of-way areas is underway in the Clifton, Popes Head, Fairfax Station, and Centreville areas of Fairfax County and will continue through early October. Customers may see our licensed applicator — Osmose Utilities Services, Inc. — using a backpack sprayer to apply herbicides. NOVEC’s herbicide applications are targeted, low-volume foliar applications used to eliminate undesirable brush species and vegetation within and along overhead right-of-way easements. Herbicides may be applied beneath overhead utility lines on or near customers’ property. However, all efforts are taken to avoid herbicides being inadvertently sprayed on lawns, gardens, pastures, or landscaped areas. NOVEC has successfully used foliar herbicides for more than 15 years to safely reduce undesirable woody undergrowth and encourage naturally low-growing grasses and wildflowers. The results are improved right-of-way access for repair crews, reduced tree trimming expenses, a more aesthetically pleasing right-of-way corridor, and enhanced wildlife habitat.
