Review "Yes, this chapter introduces a wide array of technical terminology, in which the author does a fantastic job of breaking it down so that novice learners can comprehend it. Yes, the examples in this chapter are excellent in that they allow the reader to relate to the technical concepts in a comparative way. The Hands-on Projects for this chapter tie in well with the material presented. Best there is, but expensive By PCTutor I am an IT instructor teaching Security+ and more. I have chosen this book for my students because it is the best book available. I have taken the SY0-301 exam and this book covers most of what is on it and it has everything on CompTIAs list of exam objectives. Examples given at the start of every chapter are current and real world. The list of terms and definitions at the end of every chapter are great, everyone else is weak in this critical area. Don't cheap out and buy the old version of this book for the new exam. No other book of the six I have looked at covers near as much material. This is written as a text book with good end of chapter questions. Textbooks are expensive, but in this case worth it. If you need something to explain network fundamentals I recommend excellent but inexpensive Sybex Microsoft Windows Networking Essentials 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. It's all you need By G. Rucker I took a eight week course using this book in October 2011 and enrolled for the December 2011 at chapter 10 and passed. If you want to pass the security + exam buy this book and read all the chapters, reviwed each chapter's power point slides, complete all chapter review questions and work two hands on project problems. The night before the exam I reveiwed all the end of chapter definitions and review questions and passed on my first try. This study process was enough for me to pass the security + exam. 14 of 18 people found the following review helpful. Inaccurate and Expensive By Sam Bowne I used this book to teach a Security+ class at City College San Francisco, and I was disgusted by the errors. The information about hashing is ten years out of date, and the discussion of password hashes is dead wrong--passwords are hashed, not encrypted. I don't think the author understands the difference between hashing and encryption; certainly the students won't learn it from this garbled nonsense. I sent the author emails asking about the errors, and got no response. To be fair, 90% or more of the statements in the book are correct. If you study this book, you can pass the Security+ exam, and you will only have 5% of poisonous false concepts in your mind, which you will need to root out and replace later. If this were the only Security+ book on Earth, I

would continue to use it, and just correct its errors in class. But there is no need to settle for that. Don't waste your money or time on this book--get Darril Gibson's Security+book instead--ISBN-10: 1463762364; $10 for the Kindle edition. If you want hands-on projects, mine are free for anyone to use at samsclass.info, and I will have powerpoint files based on Gibson's book available there next semester.
