Abstract The rapid development of science and technology can not be separated from the role of digital imagery. However, the digital image is not always has good quality. One of the things that affects the quality of digital images is contrast. The contrast of digital image affects the human eye to perceive the beauty of digital image sensation. The quality of the contrast affects the ability of the eye receiving information from the image, so it is very possible that the human eye obtained incorrect information due to the bad quality of digital image contrast. In this study, contrast enhancement of digital color image with Atanassov's intuitionistic fuzzy histogram hyperbolization approach in Lab color space performed. Furthermore, the contrast of resulted image compared to the original image by observing the increase of standard deviation values numerically. From the results of tests performed, the contrast of resulted digital images has increased from its original. The results of this contrast enhancement is affected by the values of modification factor used. From the tests also found that the lower the value of the selected modification factor, the more bright appearance image is produced. And vice versa.
