Pendragon: The Merchant of Death By D. J. MacHale Reviewed by Peter Choi This book really captivated my attention. My favorite part of the book was the gunfight between the uncle of the main character (Bobby Pendragon, hence the title) and the evil Traveler (Saint Dane) who wanted to take over Halla (everything that exists). I felt nervous when Bobby's uncle tells him to run away by himself and jump into a time flume during the fight. He flumes to a place called Denduron and had to stop Saint Dane continuously throughout his time there. In time, Bobby realizes that he’s not going to figure out who picks the Travelers. He does have some training though. His Uncle Press took him on all sorts of adventures on Earth (or second Earth as they call it in the book) that prepped him for being a traveler. I thought it was really written well. He didn't use too many similes or metaphors, and even though the author didn't use too much poetry, the book was still interesting because it is written in a different way than I am used to. It is written in a journal-like form. Bobby is writing to his friends back on Second Earth. He has to send letters to his friends to tell them what's happening to him on whatever planet or territory he’s on because that may be the only record of him if something happened to him. People should read this book if they like fantasy. This book is a mix of fantasy and adventure, because there are fantastic ideas like traveling through time and saving the world from evil people who want to take over everything, along with adventure elements like traveling to different places and saving people, places, and things. I would recommend this book to to all readers because there are many different feelings such as sadness, happiness, anger, and sympathy that everyone can relate to and understand. This makes it an interesting book to read. After I finished the first book I wanted to read the next book and was glad to know that there are many sequels. In conclusion, this book was well-written, interesting, fun, and exciting, and I think that anyone could enjoy reading it.
