New York, NY -‐ On September 1, 2011 Penguin Young Readers Group and acclaimed children’s theater group, The Story Pirates, will launch a national theatrical bus tour entitled “Theodore Boone & the Thrill of Rights” based on John Grisham’s #1 New York Times bestselling Theodore Boone children’s novels. During each performance, audiences will learn basic concepts of the American justice system while being introduced to the world and characters of the Theodore Boone books, which follow the adventures of a 13-‐year-‐old amateur attorney in the small southern town of Strattenburg. Emily Romero, Vice President of Marketing, Penguin Young Readers Group commented, “John Grisham has created both a highly-‐entertaining and educational new children’s series with Theodore Boone, which lends itself perfectly to an interactive children’s production. We worked closely with the Story Pirates to create a dynamic and engaging performance that introduces children to the legal system through John Grisham’s compelling stories and characters. We hope the tour entertains and surprises, and ultimately enriches the lives of children across the country as the bus travels from city to city this September.” “Theodore Boone and the Thrill of Rights” is an interactive show aimed at children ages 8 and up. In it, Theo Boone is on trial for stealing the Bill of Rights! With a signed letter of permission from his parents, Theo decides that the best lawyer to try his case is himself. He’ll go head to head with the unorthodox but extremely well-‐prepared prosecutor. With the help of a no-‐ nonsense judge and an emotional security guard, Theo will have to think on his feet to prove it his innocence. He may even stumble upon the true culprit! Performances will include sound effects, interactive skits and games, and the audience will act as a jury. Each show will be followed by a Theodore Boone & the Thrill of Rights official bus tour poster signing. -‐ more -‐
John Grisham, the #1 international bestselling author of 23 acclaimed books including The Firm, The Pelican Brief and A Time to Kill, introduced young readers to the legal thriller last year with his debut children’s novel, Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer. Published in May 2010, THEODORE BOONE: Kid Lawyer debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list and was lauded as “classic Grisham” (The Los Angeles Times) and “gripping” (Scholastic News). The New York Times raved, “Not since Nancy Drew has a nosy, crime-‐obsessed kid been so hard to resist.” On June 6, 2011, Dutton Children’s Books published the highly-‐anticipated sequel, THEODORE BOONE: The Abduction, which also debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list. In THEODORE BOONE: Kid Lawyer, we meet young Theodore Boone, the smart and inventive thirteen-‐year-‐old amateur attorney who knows every judge, policeman, and court clerk in town—and a lot about the law. He dreams of a life in the courtroom, as a famous trial lawyer or a great judge. But Theo finds himself in court much sooner than expected. A cold-‐blooded killer is on trial for his wife’s murder, but there are no witnesses and he’s about to go free. Only Theo possesses evidence to convict the accused murderer. In THEODORE BOONE: The Abduction, the stakes are higher than ever when Theo’s best friend April disappears, taken from her home in the middle of the night. A fevered manhunt for April’s shady relative—recently escaped from prison—is underway. But as fear ripples through his small hometown and the police hit dead ends, it is up to Theo to use his legal knowledge and investigative skills to chase down the truth.
