The biological aspects studied: screening of the azidomethylcoumarins for their antimicrobial activities.

Ms. Anuradha Ramoji M.Sc., (Ph.D) RESEARCH WORK: •

Vibrational spectroscopy characterization of a variety of molecular systems: Benzonitrile, 3-chloro-, 4-chloro- and 5-chloro-2-methylphenylisocyanates, 2-bromohydroquinone, 3acetylcoumarin, 6-bromo- and 6-methyl-3-acetylcoumarins, 6-chloro- and 7-chloro-4azidomethylcoumrins, 6-methyl- and 7-methyl-4-azidomethylcoumrins, 5,6-benzo- and 7,8-benzo-4-azidomethylcoumrins on the basis of spectral correlations as well as electronic structure modeling

Used different methods: Hartree-Fock and Density Functional theory with different basis sets and a comparative studies of the performance of different methods have been carried out.

Modeling of H-bonded dimers for different molecules, monomer and dimer conformational aspects of hydroquinone and 2-bromohydroquinone have been studied.

The 4-Azidomethylcoumarins have been screened for their antimicrobial activities, especially 6-Chloro-, and 7-Chloro-4-azidomethylcoumarins show very good growth inhibitory activity against B. Subtillis, E. coli and A. niger (bacteria) as compared to ciprofloxacin and gresiofulvin.

The photophysical parameters of 6-bromo- and 6-methyl-3-acetylcoumarins have been studied and it is found to be an active laser medium.

POST DOCTRATE Investigation of Breast Cancer Tissues and cells using micro-Raman Spectroscopy. •

The research work is centered on investigation of Breast Cancer cells and tissues by means of imaging using micro-Raman Spectroscopy.

Raman measurements are carried out to investigate biochemical changes; from a normal to malignant tissue in the fingerprint region (2000 – 600 cm-1).

The optimization of formalin fixation methods so that there is minimum possible alteration and interference due to the fixative.
