Abstract Punica granatum (Pomegranate) is widely employed in various countries as a source of therapeutic agent a variety of pathogenic microbes. In this work, we describe environment friendly technique for green synthesis of copper nanoparticles from copper sulphate solution using the Punica granatum peels extract as reducing agent and the qualitative analysis of the major bioactive constituents of medicinaly important plant Punica granatum in aqueous extract of peels. Saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, Phenol were highly concentrated present in the peels extract. The copper nanoparticles were characterized using U.V-Visible spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy and X-ray Diffraction spectroscopy. The U.V-Visible spectra indicate a strong Plasmon resonance that is located at 560nm. The Scanning Electron Microscopy analysis shows that product have cubic and spherical morphology with size ranging between 50-100nm and X-ray diffraction showed that the copper nanoparticles are crystalline in nature, with a cubic shape. The study also indicates that copper nanoparticles show good antimicrobial activities when compared to the standard antibiotic.
