COURSE DESCRIPTION: Course Title: Conceptual Physics (Physics I) Course Number: 2003380 Credit: 1.0 unweighted Will meet graduation requirement for Science COURSE DESCRIPTION: Conceptual Physics engages students with analogies and imagery from real‐world situations to build a strong conceptual understanding of physical principles ranging from classical mechanics to modern physics. With this strong conceptual foundation, students are better equipped to understand the equations and formulas of physics, and to make connections between the concepts of physics and their everyday world. SUPPLIES/RESOURCES: Most supplies are provided by the school, however, it is requested that each student supply a few additional items: Notebook- (space in a larger notebook or a separate notebook) Calculator (does not have to be a scientific calculator) Blue or black pens Pencils (wood or mechanical) Highlighter (any color) Cranium full of brains Laboratory Donation: $20.00 (checks only – payable to NHS) Lab donations are used to purchase consumable lab supplies A box of tissues to share with the class is always appreciated for use during cold/flu season GRADING PROCEDURES: The grade for Chemistry will be calculated as follows: Grades are determined by dividing the number of points earned by the total points possible using the following categories: Points may vary according to assignment • Tests (100 points) • Quizzes (20 points - could vary) • Labs (50 or 100 points) • Homework/classwork assignment for completion (10 points - could vary) • Homework/classwork assignment for accuracy (20 points - could vary) • “Accelerator” daily assignment (25 points total per week)

DISCIPLINE AND MAKE-UP WORK POLICY: Students should refer to all policies outlined in the NHS Student Handbook and the Code of Conduct provided by the Okaloosa County School District. Failure to follow these policies will result in immediate disciplinary action. Please be aware that policies are updated from year to year. Refer to the Niceville High School policies for Attendance and Student Conduct. Make-up work for excused absences must be completed within one week following the absence. It is the student’s responsibility to request work before or after class, via email, etc. without interrupting class time. Partial credit on late work will be given on most assignments for up to 3 days, starting at half credit. (i.e. late one day = 50%) CLASS RULES: 1. ATTEND class regularly. 2. RESPECT yourself and others at all times. 3. Be ON TIME to class and with assignments! 4. Be PREPARED to learn by being prepared for class. 5. Always do your BEST. 6. Request HELP if needed. 7.
