Piper Theatre At the Old Stone House & Washington Park 3rd Street, between 4th and 5th Avenues Park Slope, Brooklyn www.pipertheatre.org 718-768-3195 Piper Theatre Presents - Summer 2013 A Piper Original Adaptation:

Frankenstein

3 Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:30 pm (no show July 4) July 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20 Free and Outdoors at the Old Stone House & Washington Park

Piper presents its 13th season with a vivid, transmedia plunge into a horror classic: Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein.” This original retelling of the mad scientist and his reanimated creation marks a first for Piper: Frankenstein brings the experience of immersive theatre outdoors, with live music and specially commissioned rear projections. A series of original short films plays a large-screen counterpart to the live action, casting its narrative shadow with glimpses into the human past of Frankenstein’s Creature. Frankenstein uses modern methods to conjure the early 19th-century period when the story originally took place: The Age of Enlightenment, when the mysterious forces of science and the supernatural ruled the public imagination and mixed together with dangerous results.

In keeping with its mission, Piper Theatre’s knack for recruiting world-class, up-andcoming Brooklyn talent continues for its 2013 main stage production: Frankenstein features short films by Jeremy Mather, original score by Lucas Syed and musical direction by Laura Mulholland. For adults and brave children. Piper Family Matinee: You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown 7 pm July 6, 12, 13, 19 and 20 Free and Outdoors at the Old Stone House & Washington Park

The Tony-award winning musical based on Charles M. Schulz’ beloved Peanuts gang comes to Brooklyn! You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown shares the adventures of Lucy, Schroeder, Linus, Sally, Charlie and everyone’s favorite beagle, Snoopy.

There’s no better all-ages, summertime theatre experience than a musical in the park, and Piper’s song-and-dance productions are unmatched by any summer stage in the five boroughs. You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown follows the neon glow of last year’s crowd-pleaser, Xanadu, with Xanadu lead actress Alissa Laderer Castleton returning for this year’s production.

Piper Plays: Smart Plays for Young Actors: June 13, 14, 15 at 7pm and July 10 at 7:30 pm Piper’s Second Annual Festival investigating the complex lives of children will be presented at BAX this June, with the culminating performance of the finalists’ plays being held at the Old Stone House in July. Scripts were solicited nationwide to participate in this one-act festival of unpublished plays. The audience will vote on their favorite play and the winning playwright will receive a $500 award. Plays will appear in our inaugural publication. Youth Workshop Performances: July 24 through July 27

Check out our website for a full list of free youth workshop performances, including this year’s Piper Musical, Godspell, the Shakespeare Intensive’s production of Hamlet and many more. Piper’s youth performances are truly impressive and not just for the parents – they’re as much fun for the audience as they are for the kids!

2013 also features Piper’s first youth cross-continental cultural partnership: We are excited to host the talented students from the Hale School’s Redfoot Youth Theatre in Perth, Australia. On July 5 and 6, they’ll be treating our community to three productions: their fast-paced, whimsical interpretation of A Midsummer’s Night Dream, the anything-goes, instant theatre retelling of The Kiss That Missed and the US debut of their original production, Parachute. _______________________________________________________________
