JOB ANNOUNCEMENT Post-Doctoral Fellow (PDF) – Plant Phenotyping Ref: IRS/03/2017/22 The Africa Rice Centre (AfricaRice) is seeking a highly qualified PDF in Plant Phenotyping to be based at AfricaRice’s 700 ha experimental station at M’bé, near Bouaké, Côte d’Ivoire. About AfricaRice AfricaRice is a leading Pan – African rice research organization committed to improving the livelihoods in Africa though strong science and effective partnerships. AfricaRice is one of the 15 international agricultural research centres that are members of the CGIAR System Organization (CSO). It is also an Intergovernmental association of African member countries. Its membership comprises of 26 countries, covering West, Central, East and North African regions. Responsibilities Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Program leader; the PDF – Plant Phenotyping will be responsible for the following main functions: 1.

Set up effective phenotyping platform and protocols at the AfricaRice m’bé Research Station for traits agronomic importance including abiotic stress tolerance in close collaboration with breeders and agronomists in the Center; Introduce high throughput (HTP) technologies including automation and imagebased plant phenotyping using UAV at AfricaRice in consultation with external experts in advanced institutes and universities; Monitor and compile current and future demands for phenotyping by breeders Design and manage the phenotyping experiments; Train technical staff, student’s national partners as the need arise; Publish research findings in SCI journals; Contribute to the centre’s resource mobilization efforts; Perform any other duties as required by the needs of the Center.
Qualifications /Selection Criteria Education: PhD in a field relevant to plant phenotyping, preferably with a combination of skills in electronic/mechanical engineering. Work Experience: - Have proven experience in the use of precision phenotyping tools including software/app for data collection; Knowledge and Key Competencies: -
Strong skills in data management and statistical data analysis; Knowledge of HTP plant phenotyping platforms, image data analysis and extraction of meaningful biological information, 1

Ability to work in a multicultural team. Ability to implement the tasks autonomously with minimal supervision and collaborative team playing spirit to effectively work in the multi-disciplinary team under pressure Ability to motivate and manage staff. Excellent communication skills, orally and written.
Language The candidate should communicate fluently (orally and in writing) in English or French with a good working knowledge of the other language.
