PLDW Partner Brian J. Lamoureux To Present “Be Social Media Smart: #stop #block #tell” to Warwick Students Providence, RI – February 18, 2016 – Pannone Lopes Devereaux & West LLC (PLDW) Partner Brian J. Lamoureux, a national authority on social media law and frequent guest speaker and broadcast commentator on the subject, will lead a discussion on “Be Social Media Smart: #stop #block #tell” with students in grades 4-6 at the E.T. Wyman School in Warwick on February 23, 2016 at 10 a.m. Attorney Lamoureux will help students understand that cyberbullying behavior is unacceptable under any circumstances, and provide step-by-step guidance should they become a victim of cyberbullying or have information about a classmate who has been targeted. He will also cover how parents may be held responsible for what their children post online, re-enforce the need for responsible use of technology, and offer Internet safety tips to the students. “Cyberbullying starts in elementary school and escalates in high school. One way to reduce the pervasive online name-calling, harassing, and threats among young people is to ensure that our children are hearing the message loud and clear that if they suspect cyberbullying is taking place, they must report it to an adult,” said Attorney Lamoureux. “Anonymity with certain apps and peer pressure can intensify cyberbullying on social media. Keeping this subject front and center in our schools is vitally important for the health and safety of our children, families, and communities.” Attorney Lamoureux is a member of PLDW’s Employment, Litigation and Corporate & Business Teams. His extensive practice areas include complex commercial litigation, employment law, social media law, and creditors' rights. and broadcast commentator on the topic, including appearances on WPRI-TV, NBC10 and NECN-TV, the nation’s largest 24-hour regional news network.
