Delivering a power point presentation

Preparation

Delivery

If you know what you are saying and why you are saying it,

and you care about what you are saying,

you will say it well.

Making the presentation

Making the presentation • Select your topic and purpose

• Analyze your audience • Research your topic and prepare well • Develop an outline

• Organize your presentation materials

Preparing the slides • Large consistent fonts & good contrast

Font size • This is 32 size font • This is 28 size • Which one reads better • Slide text should be at least 24 • Less than 24 is not recommended. This is 20

Serif Vs. Sans Serif Fonts

Preparing the slides • Large consistent fonts & good contrast

• Bullet points • Animations • Use visuals, graphs and figures

Making the presentation • Decide about the main points and message

• Plan to deliver a story /conversation ! • Rehearse ! Rehearse & then Rehearse again • Time the presentation

Day of the presentation • Sleep well and be relaxed ! (Anxiolytics ??)

• Dress like a professional ?? • Reach the venue in advance • Presentation – multiple formats/ backup

• Technical aspects (screen ratio, video, audio )

Presentation time ! • Relax, Take a deep breath

• Start & End • Introduction ?? • Be loud, clear & audible

• Tone, gestures and facial expressions

Examples of bad presentation slides

Too much text Writing too much text on the slides is plain stupid. It is even more insulting to the audience that you start reading them line by line while your audience gets bored and some of them even consider shooting you so that this torture of listening to a boring speaker can somehow end and they can all go back to their work which is probably

much more important than being forced to listen to a speaker who is

A. Ignorant B. Arrogant C. Plain stupid D. All of the above !

Too Many Bullet points • Making lots of bullet points

• in a single slide • does not help and is annoying. • It just shows • that you do not know • the basics of • Making a good PowerPoint presentation. • So it is better to avoid

• Using too many bullet points in one slide • Like this slide

Small fonts •

Writing in such small fonts probably means that you think most of the people in the audience have super human vision and they can read such small fonts.

Remember ! You are talking to an audience which needs to be engaged as you deliver your talk.

They are likely to get distracted if they cannot see what is written on the slides

It is recommended that the title should be at least 32-40 font while the main text should be at

least 24 •

BTW ! This is another example of a bad presentation ( Too much text)

Bigger and better font • Writing in small fonts !

• Audience needs to be engaged • Likely to get distracted • Title - at least 32-40 font size

• Main text -at least 24 font size • BTW ! This is an example of adequate text , good font

size and animation.

Poor contrast Having an appropriate contrast in the slides is important

Just look at the text in this slide Can you easily read this text ? I find it difficult to read It is recommended that one should use a dark background with white text or White background with dark text, like this line

Poor contrast • This is another example a poor contrast

• Bright colors on a dark back ground • Or dark colored text with dark background • Both should be avoided • Use White or yellow color text with dark backgrounds

Pressure ulcers • Pressure ulcers are a major source of morbidity and

mortality in patients who are bed bound because of major neurological illnesses • They mostly occur on pressure areas e.g. sacrum, heels, greater trochanters and ischial tuberosities • They can lead to complications and slow the recovery and rehabilitation process

Issues with delayed or no stroke rehabilitation • Delay in stroke rehabilitation can result in • Shoulder subluxation • Wrist drop

• Contracture formation • Reduced mobility

Avoid too many animations and Slide transitions

Some presenters have this annoying habit Of using too many animations and slide transitions

In a single slide

And instead of focusing on the presentation the audience is lost In the weird animations Like this one

And this one And this one And this one

Summary Points • Presentation is fun ! ( and unavoidable)

• It is an essential skill for a HCP • Practice makes a man (woman ) perfect • Prepare in advance • Topic selection • Seek help, read and see good presentations ! • Choose your medium of presentation • Know your audience

LOREM IPSUM

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.
