Exempt Superintendent Directly: 5 Senior Directors Indirectly: Approximately 80 employees in the Technology Services and Instructional Technology and Media Services departments Monday-Friday, Evenings and weekends Regular Business Hours (Minimum five day, forty hour work week) 12

POSITION PURPOSE: Provides leadership in identifying, assessing and managing technology needs for the school system to the Superintendent and other stakeholders. Directs, coordinates, supervises, facilitates or performs all tasks and elements needed for comprehensive integration of appropriate technology into every facet of system wide operations. Contributes to the infusion of educational technology into classrooms, libraries/media centers and district offices by providing highly motivating, full-time, professional leadership in all areas of technology planning and technology resources management. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES  Comprehensive knowledge of education and administrative technologies;  Comprehensive knowledge of effective instructional programs & curriculum;  Effective leadership and management skills;  Effective planning skills;  Critical thinking and problem solving skills;  Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to present information to large and small audiences;  Ability to set direction and vision both at a division and system-wide level;  Ability to provide effective leadership for a large and diverse staff through creation and fostering of a teambased solutions-focused environment;  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with board members, school administrators, teachers, support staff, and other community groups. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE  Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in technology, education administration, or related field;  Demonstrated professional experience in a technology leadership role or related field;  Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered. CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS  Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Four years of experience in K-12 education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provides leadership in all aspects of technology for the school system. 2. Supports development, refinement and execution of the district strategic plan. 3. Collaborates with the Superintendent, Chiefs, and Leadership Team to make informed decisions. 4. Collaborates with principals and school staff to make informed decisions. 5. Leads district initiatives, collaborating across departments and functional areas that support adoption and implementation of technology in all aspects of school business, including those that improve teaching and learning and promote 21st century skills. 6. Creates and supports cross-functional teams for needs assessment, decision-making, technology support, curriculum and programs, professional development and other aspects of the district technology program. 7. Manages and directs staff in support of all technology applications to help the district meet goals of the strategic plan. 8. Supports the skill development of all employees in the operation of technology. Builds awareness among employees of available resources and the role of technology in the instructional process. 9. Develops and coordinates a broad range of technology-based resources, maximizing the availability and use of these resources. 10. Performs other related duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS: PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT Must be able to use a variety of office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. Must be able to communicate effectively. At times requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to ten pounds. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment. Due to the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for sedentary work. WORK ENVIRONMENT Must be able to work in office and public school environments, and come into direct contact with board members, school administrators, teachers, support staff, and other community groups. Travel is required to schools, central service offices, and other locations both in and outside of Wake County.
