THE OPPORTUNITY Career Connections is looking to recruit a dynamic and passionate Assistant Finance Manager who will be responsible for the planning, implementation, management and control of Finance related activities. This individual shall contribute to the alignment of the Finance function and provide support to the Administrative unit of the Company. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the jobholder’s role is to operate and be accountable for the financial and management accounting function while overseeing and managing the administration functions of the Company. This includes ensuring optimal use of financial and operational resources, tax planning, adherence to reporting standards, providing the Management with reports to be used for strategic planning and performance monitoring and managing seamless day to day operations of the business. This individual shall required to cater to the needs of both internal and external stakeholders.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES The areas of focus and responsibility include: Financial Management and Control • • •
Supporting the Chief Financial Officer on accounting policies and procedures, financial reporting and control, planning and analysis and performance analysis. Working closely with the Chief Financial Officer, General Manager and Functional Leads to provide business and financial decision support. Ensuring that the Finance department and the business operate within sound financial principles.
Accounting, Financial and Management Reporting • • • • • • •
Ensuring adherence of the Company’s accounting principles, policies and procedures in compliance to international accounting standards, statutory and tax requirements. Providing the Management with reports to be used for strategic planning and for performance monitoring. Managing the external audit process and meeting with the auditors to review issues arising from audit work, audit effectiveness, and management letter comments. Supporting the Chief Financial Officer by preparing financial reports. Reviewing annual financial accounts, in compliance with the reporting standards. Ensuring the existence of proper accounting systems that facilitate the recording and production of accurate and timely financial information and reports. Meeting all corporate reporting deadlines, ensuring the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of financial data.
Financial Planning, Forecasting and Modelling • •
Operational planning and budgeting for the Finance and Administration Division. Supporting the Chief Financial Officer by coordinating and preparing Company divisional annual operating budgets, and interim forecasts; budgeting on-time with high-quality delivery and regular monitoring of budget realization as well as variance analysis. Supporting the Chief Financial Officer in managing the treasury function to optimize cash flow and controls over cash accounts. Monitoring working capital and debtors to maximize positive cash flow. Monitoring and planning for currency fluctuations (KSHS VS USD and GBP), including hedging strategy as applicable. Managing the procurement and fixed asset monitoring to protect the assets of the Company, and assuring that Company funds are being spent efficiently. Assisting the Chief Financial Officer in evaluating proposed projects to ensure that they are supported by a proper business case, achieve desired financial returns, and are in line with Corporate and Division strategies and priorities.
Credit Management • •
Overseeing and managing all credit activities, ensuring that the appropriate credit terms are adhered to. Working closely with the Chief Financial Officer in order to build strong relationships with commercial banks and financial institutions.
Administration • •
Arranging Company insurance and carrying out annual reviews to confirm that the Company is properly insured. Overseeing and managing the day to day business operations.
People Management and Development • • • •

Supervising the department staff in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Appraising and coaching staff on performance related issues to ensure productivity and retention of human capital. Motivating staff by exercising sound management and leadership skills and principles. Overseeing people development initiatives in the unit and ensuring that all training, coaching and learning is implemented within the agreed schedule and in line with career plans and succession planning. Driving continual improvement by ensuring the department staff understand and utilize the philosophy, process and tools for continuous improvement.

THE CRITERIA The Ideal Candidate will have the following experience and background: • A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or other related discipline; A Master’s degree will be an added advantage. • A qualified accountant with ACCA/CPA (K). • 5 years’ experience with at least 3 years in a supervisory position. • Conversant with International Finance Reporting Standards (IFRS) and working knowledge of Kenyan Tax Laws and Regulations. • Strong analytical skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization. • Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses. • Proven leadership and supervision skills. • Strong working knowledge of Finance. • Experience in system implementation of an ERP system; proficiency in the use of Sage Accounting Software shall be an added advantage.
