FROM CONTRACT ENFORCEMENT - TIPS ON MONTHLY BIDDING
Please note that Section 25.C.12.f., trip or R-day block

training,
and
25.E.4.b.i.(a)(1) – (4), secondary line holder designation of number of vacation days, have not been implemented. To view the Implementation Schedule posted on the FedEx MEC home page, please click here. A pilot’s current bid period schedule, including carryover, takes precedence over a subsequent bid period schedule. Any trip that conflicts with carryover
(including
a

removed
carryover trip) will be dropped as CIC (Carry-in Conflict) and is eligible for make-up. If your new trip is greater than 120 hours TABF, you may request to keep this trip on your line if the carryover trip is less than 72 hours TAFB or 3-day block (Sec. 25.F.3.a.). When bidding vacation with carryover, remember that carryover conflicts will cause the trip in the new bid period to drop out before the vacation period is considered. This means that if you bid a long trip in your next month’s vacation week, and if this trip is also in conflict with carryover, the trip in the new bid period will be dropped for the conflict before it is dropped for vacation. 1. In January, suppose you have a carryover trip (into February), but the trip is dropped owing to a January vacation. When you bid for February you MUST remember to bid to de-conflict (if that is your wish) with the carryover trip even though the trip has been dropped. Otherwise any trip in conflict with that trip will be dropped as CIC. 2. In another scenario, suppose you have a January carryover trip (into February) and you have vacation in February, but the vacation does not conflict with the carryover trip; however, the carryover trip is in conflict with a trip on your February line. In addition, the February trip is also in conflict with your vacation. What knocks out the February trip, the carryover trip or vacation? Answer = the carryover trip. Vacation days are considered work days for minimum days off protection.

FROM THE MEC SECRETARY TREASURER
Nobody likes getting a bill you didn’t expect—I get it. I didn’t like writing a check this morning for $143.28 to pay my dues balance. I’ve put together a Q and A to provide you some additional information on Section 29 implementation and the dues bills starting to show up in your email: How did this happen? ALPA National Membership and FedEx payroll worked for several months early last year to implement the new timing of the paycheck dues deduction (DCO) described in CBA Section 29.B.4. The timing of the DCO was correctly programmed by the company and implemented on June 15th, 2016. However, the categories of pay that were subject to dues were not correctly programmed by the company. These categories included “separate check” income such as income from vacation cancellation (paid monthly), end of year vacation buy back (paid at end of December) and disability account (DSA) overflow/after tax income (paid at end of January). The second installment of your signing bonus was paid on June 15th, 2016 but was not separate check income and dues were pulled correctly from that income. Why wasn’t this discovered earlier? From June 15th, 2016 through December 15th, 2016, separate check dues from monthly vacation cancellation should have been included in the income reports sent from the company to ALPA National Membership. These reports are essentially file exchanges of gross dues able income amounts for each pilot, the monthly “separate check” such as vacation cancellation dues able income should have been part of that exchange but was not. In mid-January 2017, yours truly noticed the monthly dues income had not bumped up at the end of December for end of year vacation buy back. I notified ALPA National Membership, who in turn notified the company. The company discovered and fixed the software error within a few days. Your MEC was informed in early February. ALPA National Membership has been testing the software and cross-checking gross income amounts and has verified the software has been correctly pulling dues since February 1st, 2017. Since that time, ALPA National membership has been calculating and verifying dues balances—those balances firmed up last week. Once we had reasonably accurate balances, ALPA and the company started informing the pilots via communications on PFC and from ALPA. We were also able to delay issuing the bills until after April 18th, 2017, to delay the pain from any taxes you were paying Uncle Sam. To view the full message, please click here.

RETIREMENT EDUCATION AND RESEARCH
Retirement was a primary issue where much attention was focused during our last collective bargaining agreement (CBA). While enhancements were made to Section 28, we know many hoped for more improvements that were not achieved in the latest agreement. Over the course of the last year, your elected representatives, MEC Officers, Negotiating Committee and R&I Committee have been involved in an effort to research our retirement plan as it currently exists, and explore possibilities that could enhance it. As this process continues to evolve, we’ve created this website as a central location to provide you with important information—from key players involved to previously released R&I educational videos and Chairman’s Messages. The research process is underway. However, as you can imagine, this is an extensive project and will take our team of consultants significant time to develop concepts for consideration. It’s not until we reach that point that your elected representatives will determine if the outcome is worthy of further consideration. As previously noted in various communications, there is NO bargaining on retirement taking place with the company nor will there be without your inclusion. Please take some time to peruse the website. We encourage you to bookmark it as a favorite as the information here will continue to be updated as we move forward.

USE MULTI-TOUCH GESTURES FOR EASY MULTITASKING ON IPAD
We're partnering with FedEx Flight Ops iPad Support to bring you information you can use. Please continue to read the Positive Rate for more articles similar to the one found below. We would like to thank Al Brucker for providing us with this information. Use Multi-Touch Gestures for easy multitasking on your iPad Another hidden feature that Apple includes with the iPad is Multi-Touch Gestures. These allow you to quickly perform routine tasks without relying on the bottom Home button. To activate this functionality, go to Settings -> General, and towards the bottom you’ll see the Multitasking Gestures On/Off switch. Here’s a brief summary of each function: Pinch to the Home Screen – Use this instead of pressing the home button to access the home screen from within any app. Place 4 or 5 fingers spread out on the screen, and pinch together. Swipe Up to Reveal the Multitasking Bar –Use this instead of pressing the home button twice to access the multitasking bar. Place 4 or 5 fingers spread out on the screen, and move your hand upward. Swipe Left or Right Between Apps –This allows quick movement between applications that are
currently running. With an app running, place 4 or 5 fingers spread out on the screen. Now, move your hand to the left to switch to the last opened app. With the same motion, move your hand back to the right to switch back to the previous app. Want to multitask the traditional way? Simply double-tap the home button to reveal preview windows of the apps that you previously had open. Tap one of the windows to quickly open it, or slide it up towards the top of the screen to completely close it down. It is our goal in Flight Ops iPad Support to continue to provide you with helpful information.
