Iginla’s goal was his 183rd career power-play tally, passing Dale Hawerchuk (182) and tying Alex Ovechkin for 24th place on the NHL’s all-time list. Tyson Barrie scored his fourth game-winning goal of the season, tying Nathan MacKinnon for the team lead. The Avalanche went 2-for-6 on the power play tonight, improving to 13-for-33 (39.4%) with the man advantage over the last nine games. Ryan Johansen had a goal and an assist in his Predators debut.
Colorado D Tyson Barrie On The Team’s Performance As Of Late: “To think a month ago we were nine points behind these guys, it says a lot about our club and what we have been able to do and how hard we’ve worked and it’s nice to see results. A lot of season left, but I think we’re building towards something and we’re getting better every night.”
On His Game-Winning Goal: “I think one of their guys lost a stick or broke a stick, or whatever. It was a good play by Holdy (Colorado D Nick Holden), I was calling for it, it was a good play by him to come back to me. You know, we had done a good job of wearing them out and I was just trying to get a puck on net and I was fortunate to get it in.” Colorado LW Gabriel Landeskog On Tonight’s Game: “We felt good tonight and we knew how important this game was and any time you can smell a playoff spot like that, I think it’s important that you really jump on that. For us, it’s a matter of looking forward and really keep climbing. I think we had a really solid first period. They came back a little bit in the second but I think we stuck with the game plan and it worked out.” On Gaining Ground In The Standings: “We know how many games we’ve got left, it’s 40 something games, and we got a lot of work ahead of us. As we’re playing right now, we are playing like a team and that’s important and we have to keep building on that.” Colorado LW Blake Comeau On The Whole Team Contributing: “I feel like that’s a big reason for our success as of late. We are getting contributions from everyone, defense, forwards, Varly’s (Colorado G Semyon Varlamov) been playing great for us. I think earlier in the season, we were relying too much on (Colorado C Matt) Duchene, (Colorado C Nathan) MacKinnon, and Gabe (Colorado LW Gabriel Landeskog). It seems like since we’ve had some different line combinations, everyone has been scoring and it’s nice to see.” On Tonight’s Game: “It felt like a playoff atmosphere. I think both teams knew what was on the line. We’ve been scratching quite a bit here the last little while to get back in the playoff picture. That was huge for us. To get it done in regulation, guys dug in at the end. A couple of guys had some huge blocks, that was big.” Nashville C Ryan Johansen On Scoring In His First Game As A Predator: “It’s definitely nice to see one go in early like that. Hopefully I can use that as some confidence and move forward shooting the puck and stuff. It’s too bad we couldn’t find a way to win this one. It would’ve been a lot cooler.” On Feeling Comfortable With His New Team: “I felt pretty comfortable. I’ll have to look at some video, I probably made a few mistakes systematically, but other than that it’s a lot easier to play out there when you’re with guys like (Nashville RW James) Neal and (Nashville LW Colin) Wilson and I was with (Nashville LW Filip) Forsberg there for a bit. They made it a lot easier out there for me and I had fun even though we didn’t come out on top.” Nashville LW Filip Forsberg On The Playoff Race Between The Predators and Avalanche: “We’re past the half season mark and it’s going to be a race all the way down. Obviously these guys (Colorado) has been playing really good and we haven’t been playing as good as we wanted in the first half. It’s all about really trying to get things together and obviously try to string some wins together because we’re going to need them down the stretch for sure.” On What To Improve Moving Forward: “Colorado is a good team and obviously they’re doing good stuff, but there’s some things that we have to tie up and obviously we need to stay out of the penalty box.”
