Most generators do not run at constant load all the time but there are times of idling in between. Power is withdrawn as and when needed, such as when power tools are used. Today it is important to have power available on call.

What you should know about generators Verify prior to any start-up that the overall output of the unit to be connected does not exceed that of the nominal continuous output of the generator. The required information can be found on the nameplate or in the product booklet of the consumer.

Types of engines Petrol engines should be considered when the mobile generator should be small and must only run for short periods at intermittent occasions. Diesel engines are heavier and more robust and therefore better for long run hours. Diesel engines have lower specific consumption.

When to use a high-speed and when a low-speed engine? The correct decision. High-speed engine (OHV petrol and diesel engines of 3000 rpm) Engines for daily operation of 4 - 10 hours. Life = service life between 3000 and 5000 hrs. (e.g., building sites, craft businesses)

Start-up system A distinction is generally made between two types of start-up systems: 1. Recoil starter to crank the engine manually via a strong pull of an automatic wind-up rope. 2. Electric starter via ignition.

At a glance Performance data often indicate the maximum output of the engine without load on the crankshaft = SAE HP, usually at 3600 rpm. For electrotechnical reasons all high-speed engines must run at 3000 rpm. Hence, the output is lower even if no load is connected. Therefore: Rely only on performance data that relate to 3000 rpm.

Types of protection Why are they so important?

IP = International protection according to DIN 40050 60°

Electrical machines must be protected from moisture and dirt to be able to function properly. ENDRESS generators work to the protection measure/protection separation VDE 0100. The protection separation divides the supply line of a connected unit from the storing network. In this way a situation of a closed electric circuit can be prevented by the ground. Therefore the installation of grounding can be avoided.

The IP code is a two-digit number which indicates the type of protection. The first digit specifies the protection class for shock and ingress of solid foreign bodies, the second digit indicates the protection against water and moisture.

Apparent power - indicated in units of VA or kVA This is the power the generator can produce. Active power - indicated in units of W or kW This is the power the generator can supply, depending on the generator's power factor. Reactive power This is the difference between active power and apparent power. It provides the required start-up current - moves between generator and consumer to build up the magnetic field.

Most ENDRESS generators comply with EC directive 2000/14/EC. Generators which do not comply with that directive are marked “Not for EC countries”.

RCD

Insulation monitoring

The RCD, also named grounding or short circuit switch, is one of the most widely used electrical safety elements that protects the user from electrically loaded components if he should accidentally touch them. The electricity supply will be automatically cut off as soon as there is a loss of power towards the ground wire, e.g. from a faulty conductor. Correct grounding, to which all earth conductors of the unit are connected, is a prerequisite for the perfect functioning of the RCD.

ENDRESS ISO makes a so-called “built grounding” unnecessary, whatever the bedding might be. Furthermore the “calibration” of this protective measure may be dispensed with. Hence operation becomes possible at any workplace without any further preparations. In addition high resistance insulation defects are reliably detected and automatically cause the voltage to be switched off.

Why lower speed? Most generators do not run at constant load all the time but there are times of idling in between. Power is withdrawn as and when needed, such as when power tools are used. Today it is important to have power available on call.

This extends the life of the machine. Important! The in-house installation and feeding connection must be made by a specialized electrical installation firm which warrants the proper and safe installation. That firm will also advise you as to the choice of the correct emergency supply set. Inform your electricity supplier of your intention and study the supplier’s general terms. Conditions are different from country to country.

Simple and quick power supply in the whole house with the ENDRESS emergency set, a reliable supply source for all important 230 V consumers. Complete house supply

ESE 1306 DBG ES

Synchronous 3-phase generators are not the best choice for 3-phase emergency supply. Because they cannot stand unbalanced load*. For this reason, ENDRESS uses the proven G4 DUPLEX technology for safe and reliable 3-phase emergency supply. * Unbalanced load is the state in which the phases of a 3-phase system carry unequal load.

If needed, simply separate the set from the in-house network for unrestricted mobile application.

The advantage of the Duplex technology is that the brushless synchronous generator IP 54 has full electronic control and can stand 200% load unbalance. Besides, this technology provides 100% constant voltage, distortion factor of less than 5% and 4 times the start-up current. EMERGENCY POWER SUPPLY

ENDRESS automatic emergency set 5 - 13 kVA. This series is a complete system with latest generator technology. The high-performance synchronous generators supply single-phase 230 V consumers in the house. For 3-phase supply, ENDRESS uses DUPLEX generators (a brushless synchronous

generator IP 54 with electronic control), which are excellent for individual household consumers, also for medium-size businesses, e.g., to maintain the power supply to computers in case of a mains power outage.

5-12 kVA 1-phase feeding series These generators are factory wired with the automatic emergency machine and therefore need no socket outlet. Automatic emergency function cannot be service fitted.

8-13 kVA 3-phase feeding series The connection of the automatic emergency function in these models is made by a separate connection to the set, which can also be disconnected and used for mobile applications.

Only strong components will make powerful generators! For reasons of technical competence, ENDRESS employs only the high quality industrial engines from DEUTZ and VOLVO-Penta as well as quality alternators from STAMFORD and Mecc Alte.

Profi-Power package

Oil and water cooled 4-stroke industrial diesel engines secure the professional drive. Due to low fuel and oil consumption as well as the small maintenance effort they are very economical in continuous application. ENDRESS power supply installations are equipped with high-quality, tropicalized* STAMFORD generators** as per VDE 0530 - insulation class H - and are designed for maximum output under the toughest of conditions. Manual, analogical control panel ENDRESS power generating systems supply constant power, which makes them versatile in use, e.g., for irrigation systems, conveyor belts, cranes, ramming work as well as for building sites and mobile applications. There is no need to connect an automatic emergency supply.

Manual control panel The set is started manually by a STARTSTOP key-operated switch. The set can be stopped instantly at the emergency stop button in case of danger. An automatic control unit for the engine and generator functions, 3-pole circuit breaker (4-pole breaker optional) and a differential protection switch are standard for the MS series. Also part of the delivery is a power terminal board for full power withdrawal. A socket combination is available as optional extra. For more information, read on p. 66-67.

Automatic control panel The control panel is mounted on the base frame (open design) or integrated in the noise cover. It consists of the automatic control of engine and generator functions. Faults are signaled visually and audibly. The circuit breaker (3-pole standard, 4-pole optional) and differential protection are part of the supply. The automatic control panel is prepared for connection of a changeover contactor. (E-US available as accessory item). DEUTZ oil- and water-cooled engines 15 - 40 kVA The ESE 15 and ESE 20 model series have compact water-cooled DEUTZ industrial engines of the D2009 series. Little maintenance and high quality are typical of these engines which are in worldwide use. The ESE 30 and ESE 40 series are equipped with oil-cooled DEUTZ

engines and turbocharger (depending on model). These oil-cooled diesel engines are very reliable and long-lived. Low fuel and oil consumption make them very economical in continuous service.

STAMFORD ensure the parallel operation of ohmic and inductive consumers. Designed for maximum output under the toughest of conditions and made according to VDE 0530, insulation class H.

DEUTZ water-cooled engines 60 - 540 kVA DEUTZ water-cooled industrial engines with 4- and 6-cylinder in-line engines of the 2012 and 1013 series are used up to model series ESE 220. Engines with turbocharger and turbocharger/charge air cooler ensure professional drive. The progressive high-pressure injection system and the individual injection pumps reduce the fuel consumption of the engines. DEUTZ water-cooled V8 industrial engines of series 1015 are fitted in the model series ESE 530 and higher series. Electronic engine control ensures optimal steady-state behavior under conditions of peak load (max. 0.3 s). Direct injection, 4-valve technology and environmentally compatible combustion not only improve the operating characteristics but also reduce the operating costs.
