Dear Members & Supporters of the American Association of Orthopaedic Executives (AAOE): The AAOE defines itself as “Where Orthopaedic Executives Become Experts” and nowhere is that philosophy more evident than at our annual educational conference. We are committed to providing you with the highest quality content available to musculoskeletal practice leaders at all levels of experience. If you ever wished you could design a conference to address the specific issues and challenges you encounter every day in a musculoskeletal practice, you will find that the AAOE Annual Conference is exactly that: designed by your peers for maximum Return on Investment every minute of the conference. I’ll never forget my first AAOE Annual Conference. My hope was that there would be enough relevant content to make the time, trip, and money worth it. I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only was there plenty of relevant content, there was so much that I had to make hard choices between which ones to attend and which ones to miss! We implemented numerous improvements at my practice based on what I had learned both from sessions and colleagues at that conference. Without a doubt, the AAOE Annual Conference became a mandatory part of the job thereafter. Our profession has been charged with providing the highest level of service, hiring the most talented staff, meeting stringent documentation requirements, ensuring strict compliance with the cascade of new regulations, and satisfying our team of healthcare providers. At the same time we are thanked by payers for our efforts and expenses with lower reimbursement, more patient responsibility, and more frequent denials. The AAOE Annual Conference provides you with the most current and pertinent content available to address all of these challenges. There are unmatched opportunities for connecting and networking with your peers, matching faces with names you have seen on the Listserv and learning directly from each other via dedicated time held for group size and geographic region collaboration. MEETING PURPOSE The AAOE Annual Conference focuses on education and networking. With healthcare changing so rapidly, practice executives need to keep up-to-date with their education, new products, services, and technologies. The conference serves as a platform for orthopaedic executives to gather and exchange ideas, enhance product knowledge, and discuss the latest issues in orthopaedic executive management. Peer-to-Peer Audio Conferences: The AAOE

Education Council launched the Peer-to-Peer Audio Conferences to provide a platform for members to share their experience on select topics of interest to other AAOE members by listening to speaker stories as well as sharing their own. Interactivity is achieved through Q&A sessions as well as the option to speak out as an audience member. The goal is to bring the conference type of education via the web to AAOE members and their staff. Each session is offered live as well as recorded and uploaded to the LLC for future viewing.

Tool Kits: Produced by the AAOE Practice Management

Committee, the online Tool Kits contain resources from the Internet culled and vetted by your peers to create a multimedia, subject-specific online resource containing a variety of articles, podcasts, educational opportunities, and more. Not included monthly in the eNewsletter

Peer Finder: Need to find a member in your geographic

area, with a comparable practice size or with similar ancillaries? Search the interactive peer database on a number of different statistics to find members you need to connect with. Contact information is included in the database and readily available.

Legislative & Regulatory Update: This electronic

publication by the AAOE Advocacy Council is your monthly connection to Washington, DC and all the latest legislative and regulatory issues that are affecting orthopaedics. An important, quick read you’ll want to share with your orthopaedic surgeons and entire staff.

The Flawless Execution Model: Plan

The plan starts with an objective that is clear, measurable and achievable and supports your company’s overall strategy.

Brief

You communicate the plan. It is essential that people on the front lines know exactly what is expected of them. Businesses ignore this — often at their peril.

Execute Even with a solid plan and a good brief, a mission can still fail due to Task Saturation or task overload. Task Saturation is the reality or perception of having too much to do without the time or resources to accomplish it. Afterburner, Inc. helps teams combat Task Saturation by identifying resources and managing priorities. Debrief The last step is the Debriefing. After each mission, Fighter Pilots hold a nameless, rankless Debrief. Each person, without fear of reprimand, rehashes what worked, what did not work and why both the good events and the bad events happened. She is also founder of the Keep Shedding Educational Foundation which sends orphaned African children with AIDS to school. Kathy infuses audiences with timely change management tools, innovative employee engagement strategies and accelerated methods for building traction and accountability. As a former hospital executive, she strategically led Memorial Health Care System’s organizational development efforts to become one of the top 100 hospitals in America. Her most popular book, Shed or You’re Dead®: 31 Unconventional Strategies for Growth and Change is the recipient of a Writer’s Digest International Book Award. Her life was transformed when she was working as an ER/trauma nurse and was the first healthcare worker in America to be diagnosed positive for AIDS as a result of workplace exposure. She received national attention as a result of this life-altering hospital-based event that ‘made her a poster child’ for the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Robert Colvin has over 25 years of CEO and senior management experience leading hospitals and health systems.
