DACC Leaves Fowl Scene with Dogs LONG BEACH, Calif. –This evening, 50 exhausted employees from the County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) are packing up to leave the scene of the largest seizure of fighting birds in US History. They have been supported by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (SPCALA), the Humane Society of the United States, and Pasadena Humane Society. This has been a long and arduous task for each of the hard working officers and veterinary professionals over the last few days. DACC is grateful to the support we have received which enabled us to successfully respond to the largest known fighting birds’ seizure. All evidence collected will be provided to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. DACC Director Marcia Mayeda says, “We are extremely proud of our staff and support team (spcaLA, The Humane Society of the United States, and the Pasadena Humane Society) for their tireless efforts over the last several days. We hope this sends a powerful message to those engaging in cockfighting that this crime is taken very seriously. If you observe any animal abuse or neglect, please contact us at (562) 940-6898. If you would like to report a fight in action, please call 911. On a positive note, 13 dogs and 1 cat from the location are now at the Castaic Animal Care Center located at 31044 N.
