Prioritizing the product design specification of side-door impact beam using Analytic Hierarchy Process method Abstract
Product design specification (PDS) is one of the elements in the product development process. To develop the side-door impact beam, six criteria of the PDS have been chosen and compared by ten decision makers using pairwise comparison with nine-point scale judgement by Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. Each criterion by each decision makers were sum up and the average data calculated. The average data is the result of the priority vector and it shows that the AHP method can prioritize the PDS of side-door impact beam from highest to lowest which are performance, product cost, weight, environment, disposal and size.
Introduction
The aim of this study is to use multiple criteria decision making of Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method in calculating the priority vector (weightage) for the product design specification (PDS) criteria and identifying the ranking for the passenger's side door impact beam of the car. The PDS criteria will be prioritize by ten decision makers (DM) from automotive engineering and product design backgrounds using the pairwise comparison technique by Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method to get the best weightage criteria of the PDS for side-door impact beam. The PDS based on Pugh guidelines and research review consists of (i) performance, (ii) weight, (iii) product cost, (iv) size, (v) environment and (vi) disposal. Methodology
