Energy.5 subs: ultra-low frequency range completed. The Hertz Energy.5 line offers the widest subwoofer range within the Hertz catalogue, boasting nine speaker models; three of them are Flat, and now five sub boxes add to them, for a really complete product offer, to satisfy any needs! Hertz Energy.5 subwoofers owe their great performance to extensive research applied to the previous series structure, resulting in a more dynamic driver with outstanding impact and output never achieved in this category of the market. Thanks to the know-how of the Hertz R&D Team as well as advanced FEA - Finite Element Analysis - simulation design techniques and the world renowned Klippel R&D SYSTEM, every single detail has been optimized. The most important improvement has been obtained by adopting the Hertz V-cone® technology in water-repellent pressed paper membrane. V-cone® technology has had a big impact in the efficiency of the Energy.5 subs series where some models achieved +2dB when compared to the previous series. The employment of the V-cone® also improved cone stiffness and reduced the weight of the moving assembly, allowing a more robust voice coil for a higher peak power handling. Considerable time was spent on the simulation process and the subsequent measurements and listening tests of working prototypes. All this precious development time led to the implementation of a new surround and spider geometry, as well as the selection of the material used. The result is unmatched mechanical and thus acoustical linearity. This, combined with a drastic reduction of the Vas, provide the ability to achieve high undistorted SPL output in even smaller enclosures, an important factor in today’s mobile environment, turning into a thrilling performance when space is not a problem.

Energy.5: evolution of design and technology Hertz is proud to introduce the fifth revision of the Energy line; once again increasing its reliability and efficiency which, since the beginning, marked its success! Each new release has been a further evolution; starting from the experience and the know-how acquired with the previous project. With each refinement the Hertz Team introduced innovations, both in terms of technology and design, widening the gap within this competitive market segment. The Energy.5 line refines features that were introduced with the .4 version, becoming even more high-performance as well as more installation-friendly in standard OEM placements. Each Energy.5 component was developed with the purpose of optimizing the overall size: an accurate study of the woofers’ profile led to more compact baskets and motor assemblies, while for the coaxials, making sure the tweeter did not protrude past the height of the woofer’s surround, thus reducing installation problems relating to “flush” factory grille assemblies coming into contact with the tweeter in traditional designs. The research carried out on the limited installation depth in particular vehicles offered the opportunity to introduce into the product catalogue a new component, the EV F165.5, a flat-profile woofer which requires only 51 mm (2 in.) of depth to be installed.
With regards to the design, elements characterising the previous line have been further refined, “mixing” them with those of the most recent Hertz products: the embossed areas of the previous cone are now more visible and emphasized; the dominant colour is black, which best matches the look of the modern car interior components. The Energy.5 line boasts an aggressive design, conveying a contemporary, refined feeling. In order to satisfy the requests coming from the market, the grilles supplied with the component systems, can now also be purchased separately. Three are the available sizes (100 mm, 130 mm and 165 mm). The grille is entirely configurable; it can be mounted without the mesh for those who prefer a “highlighted” installation, or with the mesh for a more subdued presentation. The unique three piece design lends itself to easy refinishing for those who wish to customize every detail. 4

The evolution of the new Energy line also turned into a line with improved frequency response, both in terms of linearity as well as amplitude. The Hertz staff created a new, more rigid cone, optimizing the voice coil and the motor assembly. Also introduced is an innovation in the tweeter design, contributing to the excellent frequency response. A new, powerful 100 mm (4 in.) mid-low range component, the EMV 100.5, has been added to the Energy.5 line, able to reproduce a wide frequency range from 80 Hz to 7,5 kHz!

COMP. The Energy woofers have extreme control relating to sound quality, ensured through the use of an over-sized motor along with a membrane which can ensure linear excursion. They provide solid bass and clear, dynamic mid frequencies. The technical solutions adopted in the previous .4 version are merged with refinements; the surface ribbings are now deeper, thus increasing rigidity and, together with the proprietary V-cone®, ensure perfectly symmetrical excursion of the membrane. The DIN size basket, the lower profile gasket as well as the compact size make Energy.5 the ideal component to be installed in any factory system. The natural rubber protection ring plays an important role, preventing the basket and motor assembly from corrosion and cosmetic damage, while at the same time increasing the acoustic damping of the basket and mobile assembly. The woofer range widens with the introduction of the EV F165.5, a component designed for those who don’t want to give up on high performance, even when presented with limited depth. Also the EV 165L.5, a mid-bass specifically designed for low frequency reproduction has been renewed its high-excursion motor assembly and its original non-pressed paper cone provide the ability to get powerful, solid bass from the front doors, even without the support of a subwoofer. The ET 26.5 tweeter is an entirely new project: as the name itself implies; its size is now larger, but the most remarkable evolution concerns its internal geometry as well as its proprietary acoustic loading. The Tetolon dome now features a perfectly hemispheric profile; its wide roll surround actively adds to its emission capability increasing overall SPL, lowers the resonance frequency and perfectly suspends the superlight CCAW wound voice coil. Designed with advanced finite element technologies, the new compression chamber of the ET 26.5 noticeably increases overall sound level, improves off-axis dispersion and extends frequency response while maintaining linearity. A very powerful, high-performance mid-range, the EMV 100.5 has been added to the Energy.5 range. It can reproduce a very wide frequency range; with its compact depth and overall small footprint it can be installed in spaces inaccessible up to now, maintaining a wide, linear response and very high efficiency. Among the Energy components, there are also the two passive crossovers available; the CX 200.5 and CX 300.5, models of reliability and versatility. 5

COAX. For those looking for maximum sound linearity, off-axis response and timber quality, the Energy coaxials are the best available solution in their class. Just like with the woofers, the membrane evolution, the installation friendliness, as well as an accurately tuned motor assembly make these components even more high-performance, all the while occupying a smaller space. The RHFC, Rotary High Frequency Contour, technology introduced in the previous line, has now gone through a further progression: the tweeter position has been angled a further 10°. This refinement, along with rotation, provides the ability to control dispersion as well as getting close to the ideal frequency response.

By orienting the tweeter towards the listening point, you can obtain a frequency response optimised for off-axis listening which, until now, negatively affected the in-car listening experience. The ECX 690, the three-way coaxial, features a dome tweeter as well as a PEI super-tweeter with built-in crossover providing maximum efficiency and extended high frequency response.
