History and Presentation Gavex is a Steel Service Center with multiple Cutting Lines for processing steel coils into strips and sheets, having a large stock of steel products. Gavex has its headquarters in Ovar, located between Oporto and Aveiro with a distance of 35 km from each, over an area of 22.500 m2, with covered installations about 8000 m2 This company was established in 1967, having then the social assignment Gavex - Exportadora de Gavinho , Lda. The first years of its activity had been dedicated to the commerce of ropery, tapestry and similars.

In the decade of 70, as result of Overseas war ending, Gavex changes its activity to Steel Sector. In 1992/1993, Gavex installs its first Cutting Lines: Slitting, cut-to-length and levelling, with feeding and packaging systems. In 1997/1998, Gavex installs a new cut-to-length Line, increasing its capacity to process materials with bigger thickness. In 2005, Gavex strengthening its expansion policy, increases again its operational capacity, installing a new Slitting line, to satisfy each time better the customers

Hot rolled Steel – bending and deep drawing Steels for bending and deep drawing applications are intended for cold forming. They are used when deformation and ductility properties are more important than strength properties. They find application in the automotive industry and related sectors. These steel grades are also used for a wide range of bending and deep drawing applications in machine manufacturing, building, metal processing, etc. These grades can be used for normal (DD11) up to very deep drawing applications (DD14). The more high it is the number that represents in the larger designation will be his/her capacity for deep drawing. They have application in the industry automobile and related sectors; being also used in the machinery production, construction, metallic processing’s, etc.

The products below can be supplied:

1. Unpickled: Without superficial protection; Without surface finishing after pickling. 2. Pickled and oiled: Have a superficial finishing, after pickling; With superficial protection (oil).

Hot rolled steel - Structural Structural steels are mainly used in building industry and

mechanical constructions. Applications include building components, containers, storage tanks and roll formed profiles. These steels are not specifically micro-alloyed. They show good weldability with conventional welding processes and in most cases do not require pre or postheat-treatment. In addition to their good mechanical characteristics, they also have very acceptable toughness values.

Coated steel - Electrogalvanized Electrogalvanized products are coated with pure zinc or a zinc-nickel layer. Both coatings can be applied one-sided or two-sided. Electrogalvanized products combine good corrosion resistance, with outstanding surface finish conditions to printability. The products furthermore present excellent drawing and welding characteristics, which makes them particularly well suited for the automotive and domestic appliance industries.

Coated steel - galvanized Hot dip galvanized steel consists of a high quality steel substrate with a thin metallic zinc or zinc-iron coating which is applied by means of a continuous hot dip galvanizing process. Hot dip galvanized products

offer

extraordinary protection against

corrosion, not only because

of

the

galvanic

protection of the zinc, but also by the physical barrier of the coating itself. These products have a large number of applications and can be used both indoors and outdoors. Some of the most common applications are: Automotive Industry, Building, Domestic Appliances, etc.

Organic coated With organic coated products, a liquid paint system is applied to a metal substrate by means of a continuous paint process. Organic coated (prepainted) flat steel products are replacing post-painting of the finished product. The process is also environmentally friendly, economical and guarantees consistent product quality. This type of coating can be used in different types of material, with hot dip galvanized steel as the most frequently used grade. Various liquid paints in a range of colours can be used to coat the substrate.

A multi-stage cleaning process and chemical pre-treatment ensure optimum bonding of the coating and improved corrosion resistance of the steel. Organic coated products are used primarily in the building industry (roof, wall and ceiling claddings), electric appliances (fridges, washing machines), the transport sector, radiators, office furniture and packaging.

2.7 – Edge camber The edge camber (q) (see Fig.3), is the maximum deviation of a longitudinal edge from a straight edge measuring base applied to it. The camber is measured on the concave edge. For sheet/plate the measuring base shall be the length of the product for a nominal length < 5000 mm. The edge camber shall not exceed 0,5 % of the actual length of the sheet/plate for a nominal length < 5000 mm. For strip and sheet/plate with a nominal length ≥ 5000 mm, the measuring base shall be 5000 mm, taken anywhere along the edge but excluding the uncropped ends. For strip ≥ 600 mm, the edge camber shall not exceed 20 mm for any length of 5000 mm in the case of strip with mill edges and 15 mm in the case of strip with trimmed edges. For strip < 600 mm wide slit from wide strip, the tolerances on edge camber shall be agreed at the time of enquiry and order.
