Professional Learning Communities as method of development in the field of education March 5th - 7th, 2018, University of Education Weingarten CAUSE AND CONTENT OF THE CONFERENCE Currently in different fields of education Professional Learning Communities are focused on as significant method of development. They are implemented both in schools and in advanced training. However, the way Professional Learning Communities are being run is manifold. Objections, arrangements and performances can be found in a larger variety than its model would allow us to expect. There is a consistently positive perception of Professional Learning Communities although the empirical prove of its effectiveness is still little. Furthermore, the requirements of their successful and steady implementation are not well known yet. Especially for German speaking countries the need for systematic examination of Professional Learning Communities is obvious. With presentations and discussions the conference will take on these essential questions and contribute to a scientific foundation of Professional Learning Communities as promising method for development. For that matter the meaning of institutional context, the circumstances of special groups learning together, the inherent understanding of professionalism and the dynamics of interaction in various Professional Learning Communities will be considered and discussed. Of interest are the following and futher questions:  What do we know about the efficacy of PLCs?  On which circumstances does the successful implementation of PLCs depend and how are they run constantly and effectively?  In what ways do PLCs correspond to the learning participants’ diversity?  Which modes of regulation and gouvernance, overt and covert , are known establishing PLCs in the education system?  What kinds of interactions can be found within PLCs, e.g. regarding cooperation, competition or share of decision making?  How well is the method of PLC accepted in different areas of education and for which reasons?  How are PLCs to classify, practically and conceptually, in the range of self-determination and external control?  How can therelationship of PLCs to other methods of personal and organizational development be described?
