PERSONAL TRAINING SERVICES Get started with a FREE fitness consultation package.
Fitness Consultation Package
(Included in your YMCA Membership) If you are new to fitness or returning to fitness after an extended period, a certified YMCA Fitness Personal Trainer will guide you through seven contacts in your first three months to ensure you are on a path to success. Contacts may include phone calls, emails, program modifications, and 1–3 face-to-face meetings to help you break down the psychological and physical barriers associated with starting a fitness routine. This is a FREE benefit for YMCA members only during your first three months - it’s a great introduction to Personal Training services!
Body Composition
A YMCA CSEP-CPT certified staff will evaluate your body composition including skin folds, girth, height and weight measurements, and make recommendations to help you reach your goals. Contact a YMCA Fitness Trainer today to book your appointment.
InBody Body Composition Assessment
Weight can be misleading when used as an indicator of health. You may experience frustration when your weight shows no change, even with exercise and improved nutrition. Your body is a complex structure made of different components; such as water, fat, and muscle, that cannot be expressed in one simple number. We offer the InBody 570 Body Composition Analysis Technology to all members, as part of your wellness program. Administered by YMCA certified fitness staff, the InBody assessment provides vital statistics about your overall health and wellbeing. A Vital Statistics report includes: Basal Metabolic Rate, Lean Muscle Mass, Visceral Fat Level, Segmental Fat, Lean Muscle Analysis, and more. Contact Member Services at the Don Wheaton Family YMCA to book your appointment. InBody Body Composition Assessment Don Wheaton YMCA Only

PHYSICAL LITERACY AND YMCA PROGRAMS We’re giving kids the skills they need to be Active for Life. When children acquire and practice fundamental movement and sport skills at a young age they are more likely to stay active and maintain healthy habits in adulthood. YMCA Staff that lead these programs are trained in National Coaching Certification Program Fundamental Movement Skills (NCCP FMS). Aligned with the Canadian Sport for Life’s Long-Term Athlete Development Framework (CS4L LTAD), all YMCA programs provide children and youth the opportunity to practice and improve their physical literacy skills, develop movement confidence, and the skills to be “Active for Life.”

YOUTH TRANSITIONS PROGRAM (YTP) YTP Programs take place at Bill Rees YMCA.
Urban Life Skills
Designed for struggling youth who want to make a change while still attending school, work, or a day program. This group meets once per week during after-school hours and focuses on self-esteem, anger management, healthy relationships, communication, and more.
How‑to Adult
Accessing YTP Services Participants are paired with a youth advisor to complete an intake questionnaire that helps to identify the areas in the participant’s life that need support. Once completed, youth can utilize one-to-one support and participate in several program groups.
Group Presentations
Our youth advisors provide free in-depth information to groups of youth at schools, group homes, libraries or agencies. Our presentations focus on issues and information that affect youth in their transition into adulthood. These presentations can be on a topic of the group’s choice such as healthy relationships, self-esteem, anger management, bullying, etc.
YTP One-To-One Support
When youth first begin the program, they will work with their youth advisor and complete the intake process. Youth will then meet with their advisor on an ongoing basis and create a plan to move their lives in a positive direction. Most importantly, youth advisors are available when participants just need someone to talk to. Youth advisors can provide free supportive counselling, community referrals, advocacy services, life-skills workshops, and job-search assistance.
YTP Outreach
All aspects of the Youth Transitions Program are available in the community for individuals and groups at no charge. Often, we find that transportation to our downtown location can be an issue. Our youth advisors are flexible enough to meet youth at a public location close to your home, school, or work. Additionally, the Youth Transitions Program offers one-to-one support and programming in various schools, community agencies, and YMCA Centres.
Being an adult can be challenging. This program is designed to help youth develop the strategies to meet those challenges and successfully transition into adulthood. Participants will examine and learn various strategies and techniques for improving their financial literacy, learning how to navigate housing, and improving job search skills. This workshop is primarily geared towards youth up to 19 years old, who would like to better prepare themselves for entering the next chapter of their lives.
Rec. Nights
The goal of our Rec. Nights program is to introduce youth to recreational activities they may not normally get to experience. This free program meets once per week during after-school hours and provides an entertaining and safe place where youth can participate in new activities and make friends.
UnCenZered
This empowerment program works to foster positive change in the lives of young women by participating in life-skills workshops, physical activities, crafts, and career exploration.
SKY High
SKY High is a fun outdoor adventure and leadership program that provides an environment in which youth can build the healthy social skills that help develop personal, academic and career potential. Youth will participate in workshops and fun activities that may include hiking, mountain biking, rope courses, camping, and canoeing. The program works to address barriers to success through group and individual activities. YouthTransitionsProgram-YMCA @YMCANorthernAB

YMCA Financial Assistance available: We believe in equality of opportunity for all members of the community - regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, religion, or economic circumstance. Through the YMCA Opportunity Fund, the YMCA membership and program experience is available to families regardless of their ability to pay the full fees. Drop in and ask how you can get started! If you know someone who could benefit from this program, please let them know. Financial Assistance is made possible by the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign: As a charity, the YMCA ensures that no one is turned away because of inability to pay. The Strong Kids Campaign is the major annual fundraising campaign of the YMCA. Funds raised in the campaign help over 9,000 people access YMCA programs and membership every year. The fund helps assist approximately 22% of our YMCA members with programs such as accommodation in affordable housing, emergency child care, swimming lessons, summer day camps, and programs for at risk youth.
