Unlike communicating with the written word, communicating ideas with visual design elements is a skill not familiar to most students. To meet that need, I have designed a fast-paced, participatory workshop that is appropriate for any course/grade in which students report their work using presentation slides. Students will gain basic knowledge of human eye and brain anatomy, cognitive psychology, and graphic design principles and learn how to apply that knowledge to improve their visual communication skills. The workshop is multi-disciplinary in both content and audience and aligns with Mass. Frameworks objectives in multiple subject areas. Amy started drawing at a young age when a little girl growing up in England and moved to the US as a teenager. After taking a break from creating art to pursue a career in Arts Administration and the non-profit world (where she still spends a lot of her time), she picked up her brushes again back in 2015 and was inspired by the vibrant colors in our natural world, grown food, landscapes, and seascapes. She lives in Beverly, MA and spends as much time by the ocean as possible. When not painting she is usually hanging out with her kids, and enjoys running, yoga and getting outside...

Maryann’s school presentation, STAND UP, INSPIRE, INCLUDE AND INVITE is based on her picture books "Janine" and "Janine And The Field Day Finish", both inspired by her daughter Janine Leffler who bravely gave her Children's Book mother permission to tell her story about her Author-Illustrator life as a child with disabilities.
