Protected Area Management Enhancement (PAME) in the Philippines The proposed action of the program aims to enhance the management of 60 existing Protected Areas (PAs), and establish at least 100 new terrestrial or marine PAs under different management regimes (nationally-designated or through local legislation) in selected Key Biodiversity Areas.
OBJECTIVE
Improve the management and protection of key biodiversity areas in the Philippines
COMPONENTS 1. Improving management and technical capacities of relevant Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau (PAWB) staff at all levels, including
needs-based reorganisation of competencies. 2. Supporting the improvement of PA management in existing terrestrial and marine Protected Areas in defined key biodiversity areas through introduction of improved plans, legal frameworks, financial and monitoring systems. 3. Facilitating the establishment of additional Protected Areas under innovative conservation management systems. (e.g. involving local governments and communities) 4. Supporting the implementation of an improved knowledge management through PAWB and awareness-raising for PA management and value of biodiversity conservation. GRANT US $ 13.1 M FUND SOURCES

A flock of the Philippine duck and shore birds found in one of the municipalities covered by the Negros Occidental Coastal Wetlands Conservation Area (NOCWCA) of the Philippines. One of the project sites has been supporting its partners in Negros Island Region in the conservation of this wetland.
