PUMP, PUMP AND AWAY Come with some innovative design of model rocket which use water as its reaction mass (called water rocket) and defy the laws of gravity to keep your rocket in air for maximum time and use all your knowledge of projectile motion to launch your rocket for maximum range.

Event Structure There are two tasks of the competition: ● Task 1: the water rocket will be tested for the maximum range. ● Task 2: the water rocket will be tested for maximum time of flight.

Model specifications and rules: ● Teams will be allowed to launch their model at most 2 times for every task out of which only 1 will be considered for the final judging. The other one will be a trial.

● It is upon the participant to choose the given turn as a trial or official turn mentioning it beforehand. No points will be awarded for the trial. Teams are allowed to use separate models for task one and two but the same model has to be used throughout a given round. ● Only water and air can be used as propellants. ● Rocket should have a minimum length of 55cms ● A foot pump will be provided on the spot for pressurizing the water rocket. ● Teams can build their own launch pad, according to their requirements. There will be extra 10 points for building a launch pad which should be used to launch their own rocket. ● Water Rocket and any of its components should be handmade. Readymade models or launch pads are strictly not allowed. ● Your model can be made of any shape or material. But, it should not damage the field or hurt any person.

The water rocket may contain any of the following mechanisms suitable for different rounds

● Water Rocket with Parachute mechanism. ● Water rocket with booster mechanism. In this case, participants should ensure that they have proper launchers supporting the launching mechanism.

● Multi-stage rocket for extended time of flight. ● Water rocket with radio control mechanism. ● Any other innovative mechanism will be encouraged provided that the material and mechanism used is not dangerous to any person in the field.

Judging Criteria: Total score = Score of Task 1 + Score of task 2 + Launcher + Design

Task 1 score = distance between launching point and point where rocket first touches the ground. (not at the point where it halt after touching ground) (in metres) Task 2 score = (time of flight+ bonus) * 2 (in seconds) Launcher extra 10 points will be given for building your own launch pad. However, team should use their launch pad while launching their rocket in atleast one task. Design score= (length of rocket - 55)*(1/6) length of rocket is in cms However, you will score design points only if your rocket travels a range of atleast 10m or remain in air for atleast 5 seconds. Bonus ● Bonus 10 seconds will be added in the final time for water rocket with boosters or multistaging. Multi-staging along with boosters will earn 15 extra seconds. ● However, it must be clearly understood that these bonus time will be awarded only on successful functioning of the mechanisms. ● Successful Functioning for boosters is their (all of them) detachment from the main stage and further propulsion of the main stage after that. ● Successful Functioning for multi-stage is the separation of the various stages at different intervals.
