Introducing the 45nm Next-Generation Intel® Core™ microarchitecture New innovations and enhancements deliver higher performance and energy efficiency. In the world of silicon-based computer processors, smaller is faster. Intel now leads the world in small, incredibly fast processing technology. Intel's industry-leading 45nm hafnium-based high-K + metal gate transistors are built using an entirely new transistor formula that alleviates wasteful electricity leaks; resulting in higher performance and more energy-efficient processors. These processors are also better for the environment as they eliminate eco-unfriendly materials (such as lead and halogen). These technology breakthroughs, clear the path to design products that are 25-percent smaller than previous versions, thus, being more cost-effective, as well as presenting “system on chip” opportunities in new ultra mobile and consumer electronics segment. Called the biggest transistor advancement in 40 years by Intel Co-Founder Gordon Moore, this evolution in Intel® Core™ microarchitecture marks the next step in Intel's rapid cadence for delivering new process technologies and enhanced microarchitectures. With more than 400 million transistors for dual-core processors and more than 800 million for quad-core, 45nm quad-core processors introduce new microarchitecture features for: • Greater performance at a given frequency 65nm Vs 45nm Technology Compared to 65nm technology, Intel's 45nm Hi-K silicon process technology will provide the following product benefits: • Approximately twice the transistor density (for smaller chip sizes or increased transistor counts) • Approximately 30-percent reduction in transistor switching power • Greater than 20-percent improvement in transistor switching speed or a greater than 5 times reduction in source-drain leakage power • Greater than 10 times reduction in transistor gate oxide leakage for lower power requirements and increased battery life
• Up to 50 percent larger L2 caches • Expanded power management capabilities for higher levels of energy efficiency • Nearly 50 new Intel® SSE4 instructions for speeding up the performance of media and high-performance computing applications This next generation of 45nm quad-core processors also features new dual-core desktop processors, quad-core desktop processors and quad-core server processors.

Intel® Virtualization Technology requires a computer system with an enabled Intel® processor, BIOS, virtual machine monitor (VMM) and, for some uses, certain platform software enabled for it. Functionality, performance or other benefits will vary depending on hardware and software configurations and may require a BIOS update. Software applications may not be compatible with all operating systems. Please check with your application vendor.
5
64-bit computing on Intel architecture requires a computer system with a processor, chipset, BIOS, operating system, device drivers and applications enabled for Intel® 64 architecture. Performance will vary depending on your hardware and software configurations. Consult with your system vendor for more information.
6
Enabling Execute Disable Bit functionality requires a PC with a processor with Execute Disable Bit capability and a supporting operating system. Check with your PC manufacturer on whether your system delivers Execute Disable Bit functionality.
Performance tests and ratings are measured using specific computer systems and/or components and reflect the approximate performance of Intel products as measured by those tests. Any difference in system hardware or software design or configuration may affect actual performance. Buyers should consult other sources of information to evaluate the performance of systems or components they are considering purchasing. For more information on performance tests and on the performance of Intel products, visit Intel Performance Benchmark Limitations.
