I have always been one to ask myself questions: “If I had a week to live, what would I do?” “When my children are grown, what will I wish I would have done?”.

Questions, Questions I have always been one to ask myself questions: “If I had a week to live, what would I do?” “When my children are grown, what will I wish I would have done?” When I had four children under the age of four at one point in my life, I would ask myself: “Wouldn’t I rather be doing this than having NO children?” (I had a miscarriage with my first baby and due to complications, we weren’t sure I would be able to have children.) Our brain is wired to answer questions! “What color are your eyes?” “What is your middle name?” You immediately think of the answer. How about: “How wide is this room?” Even if you don’t know the answer, your mind immediately starts figuring out a way to answer that question. You do want to choose your questions wisely, though. We’ve already read and considered “why” vs. “how” in this class. So DON’T ask yourself a question like “Why do I have to work out today?” (probably spoken in a whiny voice)  You’ll get the answer to that question but it won’t inspire you to action. So generally, don’t ask “Why” questions because you will get the answer. Ask “How do I get the job done today?” or “How do I get the workout in today?” That’s a better question and you’ll get the answer. How about this one: “How do I get in a workout today and have fun in the process?” That’s an even better question and you’ll get the answer to that one. Ask questions that start with the word “What.” Ask questions that start with “How” as long as it’s followed by “How can I best…..?” NOT “How am I ever going to….?” “How can I best get my water in today?” My brain started thinking of solutions like “use a pretty glass” or “keep a pitcher in the fridge.” What did you think of? “How can I best stay consistent with T-Tapp?” My thoughts jumped to “short workouts” and “variety.” What works for you? Here’s a list of the best questions to ask yourself:        

What is the most effective question I can ask myself right now? (you’ll get the answer) Some of these are hard questions—sometimes we don’t ask because we don’t want to know! Where have I lost my passion for what I do? What am I pretending not to want? In what way is lack of consistency with T-Tapp a mistake for my future? What are the long-term results of not exercising? What am I no longer willing to wait for? What am I accepting as “good enough”? What have I been ignoring? (I ignored my weight for many years)

You should have several questions to kick you into gear when you’re stuck. Start with: “What’s the best question I can ask myself right now?” These are questions for your T-Tapp practice but also for your LIFE! If you were here with me in a coaching session and we were talking, you might start telling me about everything that’s going on in your life, what’s going wrong….and I would ask you this question: “What do you want?” And there’s a good chance you’d say “I don’t know.” Well, if you DID know, what do you think it would be? You can answer that because it gives you permission not to be attached to the answer. Affirmations and positive statements are good (and I do use them), but you’re telling yourself what to do and we are told what to do all the time—by people, the media, computers, email. We tend to resist that. Asking a question actually engages your brain and gets you moving. For this class, I want you to think about areas of your life that affect your T-Tapp practice and ask yourself some questions, maybe: 

How can I best fit in a workout today AND have fun with it? and



What is the most effective question I can ask myself right now?
