Coach’s Notes Welcome Friends and Supporters of Romona Elementary School PTA On behalf of the 2012-2013 Executive Board and Red Gala Committee, welcome to our 3rd annual Red Gala…the one night each year when our proud blue Mustang turns RED! We come together tonight united around a common cause: enriching the experience for ALL students at Romona Elementary School. Your presence and support tonight are shining examples of a spirit of service throughout our community that is flourishing. Your participation tonight helps to strengthen our PTA, and most importantly supports our school. Many research studies attest to the importance of families collaborating with their schools; citing “family involvement is one of the strongest predictors of children’s school success, and that families play pivotal roles in their children’s cognitive, social, and emotional development from birth through adolescence.” With engaged and active parents like you that “Take Pride In Romona,” it’s no wonder that Romona Elementary School ranks among the top 10 BEST schools throughout the Chicagoland area by Chicago magazine. Better education starts with YOU! We, and our fellow PTA volunteers, are each drawn to serve Romona PTA for a variety of reasons and we hail from very diverse backgrounds, both personally and professionally. The commonality we share is our commitment to support Romona PTA’s mission, which is to support and provide enriching programs and community building events for our Romona children that expand and compliment the educational opportunities provided for them. In all our endeavors we respectfully embrace and celebrate each one of our community members unique and diverse culture, ability, and interest.

It is your support tonight and throughout the year that makes it possible to sustain that mission. Tonight’s event is Romona PTA’s single largest fundraising effort of the year. Proceeds from tonight’s event will go back into our enrichment program, which offers our students the many field trips, assemblies, author visits and more, that they so look forward to during their time at Romona. The Red Gala Committee makes tonight’s beautiful event possible through their countless hours of effort. We are profoundly grateful to them and all of you for making this year’s 3rd annual Red Gala happen. Whether this is your first introduction to Romona PTA or you’re a long-time volunteer, we appreciate your support. We hope you take with you some great memories from your time here this evening. Captain Dear Families & Friends, Welcome to the 3rd Annual Romona Red Gala. It is a testament to our community that we’ve sustained this fundraising event for three years running! We are grateful for the ongoing support from our families, friends, local restaurants and stores. It is only through all of our hard work that this event is possible. Hearty thanks go to all families who supported tonight through donations-in-kind, ads in the Scoresheet, their time and countless hours needed to make tonight a success! The proceeds from tonight support our PTA’s contribution to the Enrichment Fund. We are fortunate that District 39 provides a rich curriculum for our children. However, many of the experiential programming falls outside of the budget. By supporting the Red Gala the children will continue to experience art, science and history—to name a few—through more than words on a page. Thanks goes to Principal Heather Glowacki for her eternal support of this event and her dedication to our students. Romona wouldn’t be the school it is without her leadership. We also thank the teachers and staff who generously agreed to auction lots in this evening’s silent auction.
