Required Setup Instructions: Samsung Galaxy Player Estimated time: 15 minutes Note: There is a diagram of the button layout and some general usage tips for Android devices in the User Quick Start. If you are unfamiliar with how an Android device functions, please download and review the User Quick Start first. 1. Create a Google account if you do not already have one.  The account is free, and sets up a Google email account for the library.  This is necessary for market access and other Google services.  Google limits the number of devices on a single account to eight. 2. Charge the Galaxy Player.  Prior to turning on the device, plug it into a wall outlet using the supplied power adapter.  Hold down the power button for a few seconds to turn the Player on.  Let the Galaxy Player charge fully before disconnecting the power adapter. 3. Follow the on-screen prompts to select language, network, and location settings.  It's recommended location services are left on. Tap Finish. 4. Set up your Wi-Fi network.  Go to Menu > Settings . Wireless and networks > Wi-Fi settings.  With Wi-Fi on, select your network from the list at the bottom of the screen.  Follow the prompts to connect. 5. Update your device if available.  If there is an icon in the notification bar labeled Software Update, tap it and follow the onscreen instructions.  If Software Update is unavailable in the status bar, go to Menu > Settings > About device > Software update. Tap Update, then follow the prompts to update your device. 6. Install apps using Google Play.  

From your home screen, tap the Market or Play Store icon: When prompted to ‘add an account’, select Yes and then sign in to your Google account. a. Uncheck the box to backup this device to your account, then tap Next. b. Tap Finish Setup. The market should update to Google Play.

Install OverDrive Media Console (OMC): a. Search for ‘OverDrive’ in the search bar in the top right hand corner of the screen. b. Tap OverDrive Media Console then follow the prompts to complete the installation.

7. Install updates using Google Play.  Go to Menu > My Apps and run updates as necessary. a. These run in the background, so there’s no need to wait for them to finish before continuing. 

Tap the

button to return to the Home screen.

8. Set up OverDrive Media Console (OMC).  

Open OMC by tapping our icon: . You may have to open the app drawer to find the app. Review the ‘About’ pop-up, then tap Close to continue.

9. Authorize device:  Tap the Menu button, then App Settings.  Under eBook Options, enter your Adobe ID credentials, then tap Authorize. Tip: Use a unique, not necessarily functional, email address that readily identifies the device. For example: [email protected] Note: If you reach the device limit for Adobe activations for a particular ID, create a new one using a fresh email address. These do not need to be functional. For example, [email protected] could become [email protected]. 

Tap the

button to return to the Bookshelf.

10. Setup shortcut(s) for your OverDrive-powered site:  Go to Menu > Get Books. Tap Add a Library.  Use the search to find your library or consortium.  Tap the star next to your digital collection website to save it to the ‘Get Books’ list.  Go to Menu > Get Books. Tap your digital collection to view it. Your Galaxy Player is now ready for lending.

Here are a few optional steps that OverDrive recommends: 1. Download and activate a reputable antivirus/security application like Lookout Antivirus Free.  Follow the on-screen instructions for your chosen app.  If your security app offers a backup option, OverDrive recommends leaving it disabled. 2. Clear any bookmarks you don’t want to keep out of the Browser.  Open the browser, then tap the bookmark icon in the top-right-hand-corner.  Tap and hold the undesired website.  Tap Delete bookmark, then OK.

A couple of helpful Android tips 

Tap and hold is just like a right click. Tapping and holding an object can bring up menus, move shortcuts, resize widgets, and more. If you tap and hold an empty spot on your home screen, you get home screen customization options.



Tap the Menu button from your home screen to access system Settings, Wallpaper settings, and more.

Required Cleanup Instructions: Samsung Galaxy Player Estimated time: 10 minutes When a Galaxy Player is returned, follow these instructions to prepare it for the next borrower. This will remove all personal data from the device and return it to a factory state. 1. From your home screen, tap the Menu button, then Settings. 2. Tap Privacy, then Factory data reset. 3. Tap Reset device, then Erase everything to confirm. The Galaxy Tab restarts, which takes a few moments. Note: If you’ve added an SD card, you may want to select the Format SD card option to clear any user data off of it that may have been added during the lending period. 4. Go through the initial setup instructions to get the Galaxy Player ready for the next user.
