Dr. Ken Russell Selected as Riverside Superintendent The School District Board of Directors is excited to announce the decision to appoint Dr. Ken Russell as Riverside's permanent Superintendent. The Board offered the position to Dr. Russell during the regularly scheduled board meeting on December 15th. For the past several months, board members have attended school and community events, seeking out opportunities to speak with teachers, staff members, parents, students, and community members to determine the leadership qualities Riverside needs in a new superintendent. Board members also set aside time to meet face to face with each of the principals to gain insight into their vision for their schools and the qualities they wanted in a new superintendent. After hours of conversations and evidence gathering, the consensus was overwhelmingly positive that Dr. Russell is the leader Riverside needs to take the district to the next level. He is a servant leader masterful at building relationships and putting students first in every decision he makes. The board is confident that Dr. Russell can lead Riverside to greatness.

Dr. Russell has served as Riverside interim superintendent since August 1st. He came to Riverside from the Mead School District, where he had served three years as Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services. Previously, he was the Principal at Mead High School, where he was awarded the Greater Spokane League Principal of the Year in 2011. He earned his Doctorate of Education and superintendent credential from Washington State University. Russell states, “Riverside is a special school district and community. People here care deeply about our students and the educational experiences they receive. I am honored to be the new superintendent, and I am excited to work side by side with staff, students, parents, and community members to make a positive difference in the lives of the young people we serve.” Please join the board as we officially welcome Dr. Russell into the Riverside family and rally around him as he leads our district into the future. Congratulations Ken!
