FYE Statement

Accommodations for Students with Disabilities

First-year students learn to make the most out of college through a combination of classroom and co-curricular experiences that combine academics, residence life, and social activities. Through their required orientation course, students will gain critical thinking skills, and begin to build connections with the campus community through inquiry, participation, and problem solving. Students are engaged through hybrid classes, numerous social activities, peer mentors, and increased contact with faculty outside the classroom. With faculty and peers, they will get to know the disciplines of the academy and identify campus and community resources for academic and personal development.

If you are a student with a disability who needs academic accommodations, you will need to submit your disability documentation directly to the Office of Academic Access as soon as you receive your acceptance letter. This will allow for a timely review of your documentation which will result in eligibility determination. To receive services, your disability documentation must meet institutional guidelines which can be found online at utoledo.edu/success/academicaccess. A high school Individualized Education Plan (IEP) will not qualify students for academic accommodations at the post-secondary level. NOTE: If you need accommodations for placement testing, you will need to contact the Office of Academic Access at 419.530.4981 or (VP) 419.530.2612 to make arrangements prior to the date of your placement test(s). Documentation will be required for placement test accommodations.

Accommodations during your academic career If you are found eligible for accommodations, you will need to schedule an intake assessment. Accommodations will not be provided until an intake assessment has been completed. For more information regarding policies, procedures, and scheduling an intake appointment, please contact the Office of Academic Access at 419.530.4981 or (VP) 419.530.2612.

UT Student ID (Rocket Card) Photo Submission Process In order to obtain your UT Student ID called the Rocket Card, students are required to submit their photograph online. Students submitting their photograph via the myUT Portal at least 3 days in advance of their scheduled Rocket Launch program date will be able to pick up their Rocket Card at Rocket Launch. If unable to submit a photograph online, a picture will be taken the morning of the orientation program, and the ID will be created and distributed at the end of the program. For complete details and information about the Rocket Card photo submission process, visit the New Student Tab in the myUT Portal, and click on “Student ID” on the menu. 3

Activities are led by UT upperclassmen who have been trained for their role as counselors through the University YMCA. They will help you build confidence, teamwork, leadership skills and lifelong friendships. Some of the counselors shared their thoughts on the camp: “It’s a great way for incoming freshmen to get involved before coming to school. It really helped me, and I hope it will do the same for other students.” “I want to impact the freshmen like I was impacted.” “I want to be a positive influence to the incoming freshmen and help them feel great about coming to The University of Toledo!” Parents, are you worried about retention? Concerned if your son or daughter will finish college? Encourage them to participate in Freshman Camp – it is truly a program that will help them be more comfortable with their transition from high school to college life at The University of Toledo! You have the option of attending one of the following two weekends that Freshman Camp is being offered this year: July 26-28, 2013 as well as August 2-4, 2013. Freshman Camp starts and ends at The University of Toledo with the majority of the weekend spent at YMCA Storer Camps in Jackson, Michigan or Camp Miakonda in Sylvania, OH. Your $140 fee covers transportation from UT to the Camp, lodging, all meals (dinner on Friday through lunch on Sunday), a Freshman Camp 2013 t-shirt, all programming scheduled for the weekend, and your first semester membership fee for the University YMCA. Parking for Rocket launch Program Day

Normally, a permit is required to park on our campuses; however, we have arranged for our Rocket Launch students and guests to park in Area 5, 10, or 13 without a parking permit. Handicap accessible parking is available in Area 11. It is imperative that you park in Area 5, 10, or 13 only. Parking in any other lot may result in a parking ticket. LC 13 309 LC156 0313
