CEOP In the interests of team working and organisational effectiveness, there will be occasions when you will be expected to work within other areas of the business, which may include working with child sexual abuse images and other related materials.

Role Summary: To undertake and contribute to investigations into child sexual abuse and investigations. Main Responsibilities:  Working within joint agency arrangements, participate in operations and investigations, gathering information, intelligence and evidence in support of CEOP’s control strategy and objectives. Meet and adhere to minimum operating standards set out by ACPO, CEOP and other relevant legislation.  To deploy as a covert human intelligence source in support of investigations into online child sexual abuse and exploitation in accordance with legislative and operational requirements.  To work to identify victims of child sexual abuse through investigation and law enforcement activity.  Provide advice on legislation, policy and tactical options to assist in the planning and implementation of investigations and operations both within CEOP and the wider child protection community.  Carry out all necessary investigative tasks for the successful implementation of child protection investigations and manage the associated risks.  Prepare and deliver information and presentations to diverse audiences as appropriate  Identify and enhance intelligence opportunities from covert investigations in accordance with current legislation and CEOP policy and contribute to influencing covert investigations focusing on internet and child protection related issues.  Identify new and innovative approaches to tackle online child sexual abuse. Work with partner agencies and stakeholders to identify tactics and techniques that may assist online child sexual abuse investigations  .Ensure the quality, secure handling and dissemination of intelligence, maintaining confidentiality, sensitivity and duty of care in line with CEOP policy.  Conduct case management, and create, maintain and update departmental records, including operational or programme activity spreadsheets, case files and monthly reports. Knowledge  Basic understanding of information management.  Good understanding of UK legislation affecting CEOP activity.  Knowledge of disclosure/exhibits procedures  Knowledge of the online environment and related technologies B. Skills  Good information technology skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.  Good analytical /data interpretation skills.  Good written/drafting skills. C. Experience  Experience of carrying out intelligence led investigations. preferably in an online environment  Experience of covert or major, multi agency investigations ideally involving child protection  Proven experience of working to tight deadlines within a dynamic environment. Training & Professional Qualifications D. Essential at Entry:  Not applicable E. Desirable at Entry:  NUTAC undercover  Covert Internet Investigator course.  RITES course. Additional Factors: This section details any additional requirements of the post that are not already outlined in this profile. The successful applicant must have SOCA powers or equivalent. This post is subject to successful completion of Covert Internet Investigator course. Training requirements whilst in post:  Induction training  Child Protection Training (CEOP only)  Understanding Sex Offenders (CEOP only)  Ambassador Training (CEOP only)  NUTAC Undercover and Covert Internet Investigator course.  SOCA Operational Skills training (SOS) Stage 1 (as required).  SOCA Operational Skills training (SOS) Stage 2 (as required).  SOCA powers training (as required).  Intelligence training (as required).  Staff safety training (as required).  Driver training (as required).  National surveillance training (as required).  SOA 2003  Online offender course  Viewing images training  Diversity training  Health & Safety  First Aid (as required).  Any other appropriate training (as required). Full training requirements will be determined by Learning and Department and agreed with line management. Training may be held at an alternative location to the post-holder’s main office (as required). Psychological Assessment: Candidates should note that working within an environment such as CEOP necessitates good coping skills. It is not always the traumatic images that some CEOP workers are exposed to which cause the most psychological distress. It has been found that people who have to engage with any aspect of child exploitation are equally likely to suffer harm- if a particular issue connects at an emotional level the imagination can easily push what maybe is something no too significant to something which is. Therefore, with all CEOP roles, the selected candidate will be subject to pre-employment/pre-deployment psychological screening which could include testing of the following:  Emotional resilience to stress & burnout/high level of stress coping skills  Critical thinking skills (Inference, Recognition of Assumptions, Deduction, Interpretation and Evaluation of Arguments)  Emotional intelligence and emotional self-awareness You do not need to address any of this in your application as only selected candidates will be assessed. Other  CEOP/SOCA is a 24/7 organisation, and working patterns must support business requirements.  Travel to sites/meetings throughout the UK/overseas and overnight stays (as appropriate).  The successful applicant will be required to perform duties on variable working patterns.
