English The English program this term focuses on the children’s reading, writing and talking and listening skills as set out under the three interrelated strands of Language, Literature and Literacy of the Australian Curriculum. The following concepts will be covered: Spelling: Words from core lists, themes, usage, reading, story writing and word families. Writing: This Term we will focus on writing to re-tell an event and on writing a procedure. Handwriting: NSW Foundation Style script (printing). Reading: Guided, shared and independent. Grammar: Nouns and prepositions. Punctuation: Full stops and capital letters. Speaking: Weekly news and class, pair and group discussions.

Count to and from 20 and locate numbers on a number line Order objects based on lengths using informal units Use the language of direction to move from place to place Collect data by asking questions and draw simple data displays

History Our unit of study How are families from the past similar and different from families today? Will be begun this Term and continued throughout the year. This Term our focus question is : How has family life changed or remained the same over time?

Our study will be linked with Canberra’s celebration of 100 years.

Science and Technology Primary Connections – Our Science Unit during Term 1 will cover the content found in the Australian Curriculum (Everyday materials can be physically changed in a variety of ways) through the completion of work based on the Primary Connections Unit Spot the Difference.

Arts Music Children will participate in Music lessons every Tuesday with Rosary’s specialist music teacher Mr John O’Brien.

The focus this term is linked closely with various aspects of the teaching program including Religious Education, History and Science. Newsletter ‘Veritas’ Day: Thursday Hats: Your child must wear a regulation school hat. These can be purchased at the Front Office throughout the year. Uniform: If your child is not in the correct school uniform please provide us with a note. Labelling Property: Please ensure that ALL of your child’s belongings are clearly labelled with their full name. We ask that you double check that the following property is labelled: jumpers, hats, lunch box, drink bottle, school bag and school tie (winter uniform). Painting Smock: Please provide your child with a painting smock. It will be kept at school for the duration of the school year. Classroom Supples: We ask that each child brings a box of tissues to school (this box of tissues will be share with the class and are for emergencies.)
