WELCOME TO THE ASDA FOUNDATION SHEFFIELD HALF MARATHON

7.30AM Race Office, Baggage Store and Assembly Zones open

Thank you for joining us for the Sheffield Half Marathon! This is one of Yorkshire’s most fun and popular Half Marathons. 2017 saw a huge success and once again you’ve come in your droves to celebrate this great Run For All event.

8.00AM Trams begin running from Park & Ride sites

Hoping for excited crowds, fun characters, vibrant colours, and picturesque scenery? You have come to the right place. Setting off on Arundel Gate, in the heart of the city centre, runners are instantly hit with the euphoria that surrounds this fantastic run. The course also treats runners to unrivalled countryside views across the picture perfect Peak District.

You should take enormous pride in being part of the Sheffield Half Marathon. We are expecting to raise a huge sum of money for local charities, big and small. Thank you so much! A massive thank you should also go out to all our volunteers. They have given up their time and effort to ensure you have a safe and fun-fuelled day. So, all there is left to say is good luck! Have a great day and get conquering that famous climb to Ringinglow – remember what goes up must come down. Thank you so much Sheffield!

IMPORTANT RACE INFO Please do not swap your race number – we will not know who to contact in an emergency if you do. Any runners doing so will be disqualified. Make sure you write your name, emergency contact details and any medical information – including medication you may be taking – on the back of the number. If you have any conditions we need to be aware of, please mark a red cross clearly on the front top right hand corner of your race number.

WHAT SHOULD I L

K OUT FOR?

The Triple Test

Drinks on us

You will be able to take on a triple challenge and receive split times for this race. This will allow you to see how quickly you conquered the 1-mile ‘King of the Hill’ climb, how fast you sprinted the largely-downhill last 10K and how unbelievably impressive your overall Half Marathon finishing time was!

All finishers will be welcomed at the line with a lovely FREE pint of alcohol free Erdinger to celebrate! Runners will receive this at the finish along with their jam-packed goody bag.

What goes up, must come down After a scenic upward journey through the Peak District, it’s a sprint to the finish back to the city centre! With the second leg of this Half Marathon being effectively downhill, let the momentum carry your legs down toward the finish line.

Medal Finishers will be able to get a FREE engraving on their finishers medal! In doing so, they will have acquired undisputable proof of their heroic achievement! A Special Atmosphere If you are chasing a PB or simply trying to make it round, the incredibly motivational atmosphere generated by Sheffield’s supportive spectators will carry you towards that finish line!

Before you drop your kit off at the Baggage Store, please tear off the baggage label from your race number and fix it securely to your bag. Please note that baggage is left at your own risk and the organisers shall not be held liable for loss or damage. If you have any questions, please refer to the FAQs.

WHAT WILL BE INCLUDED IN MY RACE PACK? Your Race Number • Don’t worry if your race pack seems a little light. Your race number already has your timing chip attached to it, and there is a tear-off baggage strip at the bottom. • Please make sure it is worn as issued, fixed to the front of your T-shirt or running vest and is clearly visible.

• You will need your number to take advantage of the travel offers on the day, to use the Baggage Store and to gain access to the assembly zones. • You have been allocated an assembly zone based on the predicted finish time you gave when registering. This is reflected by the coloured band through the middle of your race number. For Season Ticket runners,

3

your assembly zone is reflected by the thin coloured band immediately underneath your race number. The location of each assembly zone is shown on the Start & Finish map, and will be clearly signed on the day. • If you are a season ticket holder you will get extra instructions in your race pack.

The wonderful crowds in Sheffield come out in force, pushing you on even through the more rural sections of the route. Our partner charities occupy a vibrant series of cheer points across the route, and with bands, street performers and entertainment throughout, you won’t be short of encouragement!

Please be considerate of runners behind you and throw empty bottles in the bins provided. Fixed First Aid stations, with roaming medical provision across the course should you fall into difficulty. Toilets available on route.

Locations of route facilities are approximate. For more details about the route, please visit runforall.com

WHAT WE ASK OF YOU

IF YOU NEED TO WALK AT ANY POINT, IT’S NOT A PROBLEM.

PLEASE LISTEN TO THE INSTRUCTIONS OF RACE MARSHALS AND POLICE ON ROUTE.

However, please be considerate to other runners and move to the side of the route, and avoid walking in large groups that may be difficult to overtake.

Most of the route will be traffic-free, although vehicles may at times be using the same road and separated from runners by cones.

If you need to drop out, please try to make your way to one of the retiree points or a first aid point and give your race number to a race marshal. If you need to get to the finish area, we’ll arrange transport for you as soon as possible.
