7 Best Practices for Using Facebook Live

Have you seen Facebook Live yet? This exciting tool allows you to broadcast video in real-time. So far, I’ve seen real estate professionals using it to give tours and field questions. It is excellent for live events or announcements, too. Here are some best practices for making your own Facebook Live debut: Open and close: Don’t forget to introduce yourself and your topic at the beginning and then close at the end.

Reuse: Facebook Live is great because you can download the video or embed it and reuse it in other social media.

You have time: While you can record for up to 90 minutes, Facebook suggests that videos should be more than 10 minutes.

Totally square: It doesn’t matter if you hold your phone horizontally or vertically, the video is always cropped as a square.

Describe it: Write a description that recaps what you’re going to talk about so that people are more likely to tune in.

Make a connection: If someone leaves a comment during your Live streaming, try to respond or say hello.

Connection is key: Make sure you have a strong WiFi connection or have access to 4G so you don’t lose your followers.

Snapchat 101 What is Snapchat? Snapchat is a messaging service app that allows you to tell stories (or snaps) via images or video that self-destruct after you share them with one or more of your friends. They have also added the ability to share stories with everyone – these stories self-destruct after 24 hours. Who uses Snapchat? According to Snapchat’s website, “on any given day, Snapchat reaches 41 percent of all 18 to 34 year olds in the United States.” But it isn’t just for young people anymore. Snapchat is unveiling a new function called ‘memories’ which will allow you to save snaps to a memory album in order to compete with Facebook and attract different users. Why does anyone use Snapchat? Snapchat gives users a sense of privacy because snaps self-destruct. But also it is a fun way to share every day moments with

friends and family. Since users know snaps disappear, you generally have the person’s undivided attention when they click on your snap. Many users say they like it because friends are generally “more honest and more themselves” because it will disappear. People also love all the crazy filters and being able to draw on or overlay text and emojis over images. Can I use Snapchat for business? The business applications for Snapchat are still being explored by marketers. Some brands are using the stories function to share. Others are creating snap ads or sponsoring geofilters. Before you think about using Snapchat (or any social media channel) for your business – first set up a personal profile and try it out. If you like it, then perhaps it can replace a different channel. If not, then Steve Jobs said it best “Do not try to do everything. Do one thing well.”
