Safe Haven Fund & Supply Drive - FAQ Q: What items are needed? A: See flyer or Facebook event page for a current list of the most-needed items. Generally, diapers, personal & feminine hygiene items, and gas and grocery cards are some of the most sought-after items. Q: How are supply donations measured for the contest? A: Supplies will be measured in “units.” One unit = a grocery bag or banker’s box full of supplies OR one large item, such as a hand-made blanket or tickets to the train museum. Q: How will gift cards be counted towards our score in the contest? A: The cash value of any gift cards donated will be added to your local’s cash donation total. Q: What happens to donations that are received after the donation deadline but before Convention? A: Donations will be brought to the DECC for Convention. Q: Is there a prize for the local that raises the most money? A: Nope. Just the great feeling you get from doing good for your community. Q: Are gently-used clothes OK? A: Very gently-used kid’s clothes are appreciated. Q: How will I know who’s winning the contest? A: We’ll update our scoreboard every Friday and post it on our Facebook event page. The latest rankings will also be sent out in Action Update and the weekly president’s mailing. Q: My Local voted to make a donation at our last meeting, but it’s not posted on the scoreboard. What’s up? A: We won’t add your donation to the official scoreboard until we’ve received your check at one of the Council 5 offices (South St. Paul or Duluth). Make sure you send it in right away! Q: How do we get our donations to the Council? A: Bring them to either one of our offices, or call Trisha in the cities (651-287-0558) or Jay in Duluth (218-726-9602) to arrange a pick up. Q: Where do we send checks? Who do we make them out to? A: Make checks payable to AFSCME Council 5. You can put “Safe Haven Drive” in the subject line. Mail checks to:
