DISTRICT HISTORY
The District began as a volunteer fire department, Danville Farm Defense Fire District in 1912. Became the Danville Fire Protection District in 1921
The San Ramon Fire Protection District was formed in 1963 when Contra Costa County reorganized its East County Fire Protection District
In 1980, the Danville and San Ramon Fire Protection Districts merged and became the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District , remaining an independent fire district
In 1991, the Tassajara Fire Protection District was incorporated into the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District
In 1997, the Dougherty Regional Fire Authority was incorporated into the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District extending the District’s fire service boundary to the Contra Costa/ Alameda County line
The District currently encompasses 155 square miles, serving the communities of Alamo, Blackhawk, Danville, Tassajara, Diablo, San Ramon, and Southern Morgan Territory with a population of approximately 148,000
CURRENT ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
District is divided into various divisions – Executive (Fire Chief), Operations (Suppression, EMS, Training), Support Services (Facilities, Fleet, IT), Fire Prevention, and Administrative Services (Finance and Human Resources)
Executive Management Team consists of the Fire Chief, 2 Assistant Fire Chiefs, Fire Marshal, Administrative Services Director
10 fire stations including 2 fire stations (Station 37 & 40) manned by Volunteer Firefighters
Approximately 185 employees and 45 volunteers

RISK MANAGEMENT PROGRAM •

WORKERS’ COMPENSATION PROGRAM •
Administered by Human Resources and ICS (third party administrator)

Workers’ compensation claim packets containing general information and required forms are located at each station and in the copy room at the Administration building
•
All workplace injuries must be reported immediately to a supervisor/manager
•
Physician pre-designation forms are available for employees who would like to choose their primary care physician for initial treatment
•
Workers’ compensation forms must be signed by the employee and the supervisor/manager then forwarded to Human Resources
ADMINISTRATIVE - MISCELLANEOUS •
Admin Exercise Program
•
Promotes wellness and fitness for administrative/40 hour personnel Paid exercise time – ½ hour, 3 days per week on District property/gym facility at the Administration building Appendix D in the Management and Non-Represented Personnel Handbook
