Archive SAP, e-mail, SharePoint and file systems data from one archiving solution. Archive SAP business data content such as print lists, incoming or outgoing business documents or SAP ADK data while maintaining transparent access. Improve application performance by archiving inactive SAP data. Reduce data on primary storage by archiving and extend data reduction by compression and deduplication on secondary storage to meet and exceed your RPO and RTOs. Leverage search across multiple data types from a single search GUI. Identify, collect and preserve critical information assets. Search, review and produce all discoverable data on demand with a repeatable and defensible strategy. Respond to eDiscovery and legal hold requirements with minimum impact on IT resources. Reduce risk and costs related to electronic discovery.

Unified Archiving and eDiscovery for SAP Applications, Emails, SharePoint and File Systems Data with CommVault® Simpana® Software Challenges IT organizations in all sizes of companies and government organizations are experiencing with the explosive growth of data. This data can be unstructured (File systems) semistructured (email or SharePoint) or structured (SAP applications). Data accumulates in various business applications, such as SAP CRM and ERP. While all the data is important to keep for various reasons, most of this data is inactive. As the amount of data increases, the performance of applications and databases degrades. They become harder to tune. Declining performance due to data growth leads to more CPUs, more storage, and more frequent software upgrades-leading to more costs and resources (IT staff) to remedy the situation. Application performance degradation impacts everyone. End-users suffer longer response times that might impact corporate revenue. IT staff struggles to meet service level agreements. In addition, backing up this inactive data also requires more time and media while RTO and RPO remain unchanged. Database management tasks, such as replication and upgrades, also require additional time and resources as the data volume grows exponentially. In addition, companies need to comply with necessary regulations and need to integrate solutions to minimize the related business and operational risks. Data and information residing within and outside the organization is required to be accessible for many years. Therefore, it is mandatory to store historical data in a cost efficient way without losing the ability to quickly retrieve it for compliance reasons. Organizations must find and manage content from a variety of sources across the enterprise for litigation, compliance and internal or regulatory investigations. Improve Performance and Reduce IT Costs by Archiving Inactive SAP Data CommVault® Simpana® software now extends data archiving to SAP data for space reclamation, retention and eDiscovery needs. The SAP certified archiving solution from CommVault offers a world-class solution for the unified archiving of unstructured, semistructured, and structured information and data. Archived data can be managed in a single central location and discovered from a single search console or via SAP GUI, to enable quick, accurate, and complete response to audit or eDiscovery requests with minimal IT involvement. The comprehensive offering enables IT teams to safely and easily archive SAP data — and then readily access it when needed. CommVault enterprise class archiving reduces reclaims primary storage, extending the life of storage systems and reducing the time required for data protection. Simpana 9 is based on SAP ArchiveLink to enable archiving of SAP data to disk, tape or even cloud storage. Initiated within SAP, all selected data is transferred via SAP HTTP Content Server interface to CommVault Simpana software. This way, SAP contents such as incoming and outgoing business documents, Print lists, and SAP archive files can be archived and sent to lower cost storage for longer retention while maintaining transparent access. During the archive operation, this data can be further subjected to deduplication, compression and encryption thus reducing the storage size on media for optimum cost reduction at primary and other secondary tiers as well as meeting security requirements. Companies using Simpana software for their SAP archiving can reduce costs and resources due to an integrated and mostly automated archiving and data management process. SAP data and information indexing and cataloging makes the SAP data easy searchable and quickly findable and with very limited interaction, data can be retrieved to comply with regulations and corporate governance to reduce operational risks. The quick deployment of CommVault’s cost efficient solution for SAP archiving along with very little management overhead can dramatically reduce operational costs especially with a
Solution Brief seamless integration into the entire IT environment including email systems, file servers and more. How It Works Archiving SAP content can be achieved with a newly introduced feature called Content Store in Simpana 9. The Content Store for SAP Archiving Interface implements the SAP HTTP Content Server API and provides a mechanism to archive and recall SAP business data content such as print lists, incoming or outgoing business documents or SAP ADK data archive files. Content Store iDataAgent is installed on a Linux server. It can be configured as a set of SAP content repositories allowing SAP business data to be organized into different buckets. This can easily be achieved through SAP customization. All archived SAP data will be stored on the Content Store server as a result of SAP archiving runs. As controlled by a Simpana Storage Policy, further copies of the archived SAP data can be easily created on different storage media such as disk, tape or even a cloud. This results in a flexible tiered storage architecture which allows to store archived SAP data objects according to individual requirements with regards to access time, frequency, retention time and storage cost. The Content Store server itself represents a fast data cache which allows recalling recent SAP data objects quickly out of SAP business applications. Older, less frequently accessed SAP data can be stored on slower, but inexpensive storage media for instance to be available for audits and therefore meet compliance requirements. All archived data objects remain to be accessible from SAP applications throughout their life time, which can be controlled by assigning retention times or via explicit deletion triggered by SAP. ®
